Sega appears to have prematurely revealed a new Sonic the Hedgehog game before they intended to. It’s been almost four years since the last major 3D Sonic game, Sonic Frontiers, came out. Although Sega released an updated version of Sonic Generations with a new Shadow the Hedgehog story in 2024, fans have been eager for a completely new game. Now, it seems one is coming soon, but it won’t be a brand-new title.
A listing for Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition has appeared on Korea’s game rating website. While details about what’s included in this new version haven’t been released, it likely contains new downloadable content or an expansion. Now that the game has been rated, Sega will probably officially announce Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition in the coming weeks or months.
How Legitimate Is This Sonic Leak?
It’s extremely unlikely that the leak of Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition is fake. Leaks from ratings websites are usually accurate in the long run, so we can be pretty sure Sega is actually developing this version of the game.
This new game does make us wonder when the next major Sonic title will be released. It’s been almost four years since Sonic Frontiers came out, so a new game might be close to being announced. It seems Sega isn’t quite ready to reveal it yet, which is why they’ve revisited Frontiers with this updated version to hold fans over. If Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition comes out in 2026, it could build excitement for a brand new Sonic game in 2027, timed with the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 in theaters.
