Forbidden Fruits is if Mean Girls meets The Craft and had a baby — in the best way.
Shudder’s new horror film, Forbidden Fruits, features a talented all-female cast including Lili Reinhart (known from Riverdale), Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Victoria Pedretti (The Haunting of Hill House, You), and Alexandra Shipp (Anyone but You). The story centers on Apple (Reinhart), who runs a secret witchy group at the mall with her followers Cherry (Pedretti) and Fig (Shipp). When a newcomer, Pumpkin (Tung), joins the group, she begins to question Apple’s leadership, leading to escalating conflict and dangerous consequences.
I’m really excited about this new horror film! It’s getting fantastic reviews – an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes is huge, and the cast and director, Meredith Alloway, deserve all the praise. Plus, it’s great to see Gavin Tung in a major role again, especially after The Summer I Turned Pretty. From what I’ve read, Forbidden Fruits isn’t just scary, it’s funny too, and some critics are even saying it could become a cult classic! Apparently, it’s a movie that really draws you in and doesn’t let go.
Okay, so I just heard about this absolutely wild movie premise! It’s about a woman named Apple who works at Free Eden, and after the mall closes, she’s secretly leading this really intense, almost mystical group of women – Cherry and Fig are also in on it. They’re all about this idea of sisterhood, but it feels…performative, you know? Then a new employee, Pumpkin, shows up and starts questioning things, and it forces everyone to confront some seriously dark stuff about themselves. Apparently, it gets pretty intense, and not everyone makes it out alive. Sounds like a deliciously twisted thriller!
Lili Reinhart is well known for her seven seasons playing Betty Cooper on The CW’s Riverdale. She’s also appeared in films like Look Both Ways and Chemical Hearts, and will soon star in a movie based on the novel The Love Hypothesis. Meanwhile, Victoria Pedretti has found success, particularly in horror, with leading roles in series such as You, The Haunting of Hill House, and The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Alexandra Shipp has appeared in several popular films, including Tick, Tick… Boom!, Barbie, Love, Simon, and Straight Outta Compton. Her most critically acclaimed project is Love, Simon, earning a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Conversely, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel received her lowest rating, at just 21%.
Forbidden Fruits will be premiering on March 27.
