New The Batman Part II Rumor Teases an MCU Favorite May Join the Sequel

Fans have been especially keen to hear news about The Batman Part II. Announced soon after the first film came out in 2022, the project has faced some hurdles. Currently, it’s slated for release in 2027, and production is expected to begin next spring. Now, a new rumor is adding to the excitement: a popular actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be joining the DC universe.

Scarlett Johansson, known for her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is reportedly in discussions to join the cast of The Batman Part II, according to Nexus Point News. While details are scarce, sources suggest she could play a significant character, possibly a new romantic interest for Bruce Wayne.

Could Johansson Be Bringing an Animated Fan-Favorite to Live Action?

There’s been talk that actress Johansson might play Andrea Beaumont in the upcoming The Batman Part II. Beaumont is a popular character among Batman fans, particularly those who grew up with the animated series. She first appeared in the 1993 animated film Batman: The Mask of the Phantasm, where she’s introduced as a past love of Bruce Wayne while Batman investigates a new vigilante, The Phantasm, who is targeting Gotham’s crime leaders. It’s eventually revealed that Andrea’s father was connected to the mob, and she became The Phantasm to avenge his death.

Some people think bringing elements from The Mask of the Phantasm into The Batman Part II feels a little repetitive, as it echoes some of the same motivations and plot points as The Riddler from the first movie. However, the idea of widespread corruption and organized crime being deeply ingrained in Gotham is a core part of Batman’s story. It’s believable that Batman would have a history with many of his enemies. Director Matt Reeves could easily incorporate aspects of The Mask of the Phantasm, including the character of Andrea, into the sequel. We know the next film will introduce new villains, but also revisit Gotham’s criminal underworld – Colin Farrell is returning as the Penguin, and Andrea’s story fits naturally with that world, making the connection a logical one.

As of today, Scarlett Johansson has been confirmed to be in The Batman Part II. We also know the sequel will introduce new characters who will either help or oppose Robert Pattinson’s Batman. While many rumors are circulating about who might appear in the film, we’ll have to wait for official announcements to find out what’s actually planned.

The Batman Part II is scheduled to open in theaters October 1, 2027.
