A new problem in the popular game Valorant is causing frustration for players. Valorant is a major first-person shooter that demonstrated Riot Games’ ability to create successful games beyond MOBAs like League of Legends. It takes inspiration from other popular shooters such as Overwatch and Counter-Strike, requiring players to use teamwork, strategy, and unique character abilities to win. Matches are often high-stakes, as players typically have only one life and can be eliminated with a single, well-aimed shot. Because of its competitive nature, players are constantly seeking ways to improve their gameplay and gain an edge.
Cheating has been a long-standing problem in online shooting games. While it’s impossible to eliminate completely, developers constantly work to reduce its impact. Valorant has a strong anti-cheat system, and other games have even used advanced system-level tools to block cheaters. However, determined cheaters always find new methods, and Riot Games has recently discovered one such method.
Valorant May Require Players to Update Their BIOS
Riot Games has discovered a security flaw in some motherboards made by MSI, Asus, and other companies that cheaters were exploiting in Valorant. To combat this, Valorant’s anti-cheat software, Vanguard, might ask you to update your computer’s BIOS to continue playing. While Riot is working with hardware manufacturers to fix the problem, ultimately, players need to update their own hardware to resolve it.
While not as interesting as tracking cheaters, updating the system’s basic software is crucial for fighting unfair play. This update closes a security gap that cheaters were exploiting, making it much harder – and more expensive – for them to gain an advantage.
If you play on consoles, you likely won’t be affected by this, as cheating is less common there and this problem mainly impacts PC players. Updating your computer’s BIOS can be difficult for some, especially those who aren’t comfortable with technology. Riot Games has explained that this solution will not only benefit Valorant, but other games too. It’s unclear if other games will require BIOS updates in the future, but it’s another frustrating consequence of cheaters.
