With Xbox Game Pass potentially boosting player numbers while reducing the sales of Xbox games, it’s challenging to determine the true profitability of this game. Nevertheless, Xbox seems pleased with this achievement, as indicated by Aaron Greenberg, Xbox’s marketing boss, publicly celebrating the milestone on social media. Although Greenberg often acknowledges such achievements for Xbox Game Studios, this particular milestone stands out. To put it into perspective, gathering three million players in just two weeks is not only a strong performance but also impressive considering the relatively low production cost of the game.
Additionally, it’s important to mention that in today’s gaming era, where Xbox titles like those for PS5 are sometimes playable on Nintendo Switch as well, the Xbox Series X doesn’t offer a vast number of exclusives at any moment. However, there’s a new Xbox game currently available, which is exclusively designed for the Xbox Series X console and can also be played on PC. For those who haven’t figured it out yet, the Xbox game in question is none other than Grounded 2, developed by Obsidian Entertainment – a studio famously known for creating Fallout: New Vegas and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Recently, they have also been responsible for the development of Avowed and are set to release The Outer Worlds 2 later this year.
A Ways to Go Before It Catches the First Game
The reason this three million milestone stands out a bit more is because the game “Grounded 2” is currently in early access. It debuted in early access on July 29, 2025, which could be why it’s not available on PlayStation 5 as of yet. However, this situation is likely to change with the full release.
Although Grounded 2 is currently promising, it remains uncertain whether it will equal or surpass the achievements of its precursor. Originally, Grounded wasn’t always a focus, but it eventually attracted over 20 million players since its release, making it one of the more successful Xbox Game Studios titles from this and previous generations.
Fans Say Success Is Well Deserved
As an avid Xbox enthusiast, I’m voicing my opinion that Grounded and Sea of Thieves often don’t receive the recognition they deserve when discussing the remarkable games Xbox is currently offering. Obsidian Entertainment, in my view, has consistently demonstrated why they are the most valuable player among the acquisitions throughout the years. Regardless of personal opinions about The Outer Worlds and Avowed – their work is simply outstanding.
