Next Tomb Raider Game Could Introduce a Change That Divides Players

The upcoming Tomb Raider game might include a feature that some fans don’t like. The Tomb Raider series has remained popular for a long time by constantly evolving and attracting new players. While Angelina Jolie famously portrayed Lara Croft in the early 2000s, Alicia Vikander later took on the role in a reboot inspired by the 2013 game. Lara Croft has even appeared in anime, and now a live-action adaptation is planned – but instead of a movie, it’s something different that could influence future games.

Amazon has been working on a live-action Tomb Raider TV series for its streaming platform for a while now. They’re also involved with the upcoming Tomb Raider video game, which has sparked questions about their overall strategy for the franchise. Last year, we found out that Sophie Turner, known for her role in Game of Thrones, will star as Lara Croft in the TV series, but it seems there might be more to their plans than just a show.

Next Tomb Raider Game Will Connect to New TV Show

Fans noticed an update on the Story Kitchen website, the company making the new Tomb Raider TV show. The update reveals that the show and future video games will share a connected story, creating one larger narrative across both mediums. This is Amazon’s effort to revitalize the Tomb Raider franchise. Some are speculating that actress Emilia Clarke, who plays Lara Croft in the TV series, might also appear as the character in a future video game, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

Story Kitchen, a production company working on the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series for Amazon Prime Video, has confirmed the show will be part of the same story world as the video games. This means the series won’t create its own separate timeline, but will instead follow the established events and continuity of the games.

Camilla Ludington has played Lara Croft in the most recent three Tomb Raider games, but it appears she won’t be reprising the role. It’s currently unknown whether the next game will be a complete restart of the series or a reimagining similar to the 2018 God of War, which continued the story while significantly changing the gameplay. Details about the new Tomb Raider are scarce, but hopefully more information will be revealed soon.

This new direction could be controversial with fans. Many Marvel viewers have complained that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become too complicated, requiring a lot of extra viewing – like TV shows you might not even want to watch – just to understand the overall story. Trying something similar with Tomb Raider is a bold move, but it risks alienating fans if the quality isn’t up to par. Only time will tell how it goes, but it definitely has the potential to be interesting.
