A beloved member of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast has passed away.
Actor Nicholas Brendon, famous for playing Xander Harris in the series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, passed away on March 20th at 54 years old, his family announced.
I was so saddened to hear about Nicky’s passing. The official statement said he died peacefully in his sleep from natural causes. Everyone will remember him for the incredible roles he played and the characters he truly made his own. He was a wonderful actor, and I’ll always cherish his work.
Brendon was receiving medical care for his health issues, including cauda equina syndrome, and his family said he remained hopeful despite his condition. He passed away while undergoing treatment.
Nicky recently discovered a love for painting and art, and enjoyed sharing his talent with those around him. He was a passionate and sensitive person, always striving to create. For those who knew him well, his art truly showed who he was at heart.
The family released a statement asking for privacy while they mourn and remember a man who lived life to the fullest, with passion, creativity, and kindness. They expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support.
I’ve been following Brendon’s journey for a while now, and he’s always been so brave about sharing what he’s been going through. It was really tough to hear that he had a heart attack in 2023, and then to learn he needed two surgeries to address Cauda Equina Syndrome – it’s a condition where nerves at the base of his spine were being squeezed. He’s such an inspiration, honestly, to be so open about it all.

In an Instagram post celebrating his 52nd birthday, Brendon apologized for being out of touch for a while, explaining that managing his medical appointments had been just as difficult and upsetting as dealing with his physical injuries.
He added at the time, “I also needed time to rest…or at least as much as I’m capable of resting.”
Besides Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Brendon has been in TV shows like Criminal Minds, Kitchen Confidential, Private Practice, and Faking It. He’s also acted in several films, including the 2000 movie Psycho Beach Party, which starred Amy Adams and Lauren Ambrose.
