Nick Reiner Not Medically Cleared to Appear in Court Amid Murder Case

Nick Reiner is still waiting for his day in court.

The day after 32-year-old Nick was arrested for the murder of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, and denied bail, his attorney, Alan Jackson, explained why Nick wouldn’t be attending court.

According to Jackson, who spoke to reporters outside a Los Angeles courthouse on December 16, every prisoner needs to be checked by a doctor before being taken to court. He explained that the current situation is simply a matter of following standard procedure, as the individual in question hasn’t yet been medically cleared, according to MS NOW.

Attorney Jackson, who has previously represented Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, has confirmed that Nick is currently in Men’s County Jail. Jackson stated that, as Nick’s lawyer, he hasn’t received any official paperwork regarding a murder case, and he doesn’t believe the court has either.

I’m just really hoping we get some good news soon. I heard from Jackson that they’re handling things day by day, waiting on the sheriff’s department to give the okay. Hopefully, everything will be sorted out tomorrow and we can finally get him here – that’s what we’re all working towards.

Jackson didn’t discuss Nick’s mental state with the press. He repeated his hope that Nick would be healthy enough to appear in court the next day, and stated he wouldn’t be sharing any details beyond the legal process at this time.

Just two days after Rob and Michele, a couple married for 36 years, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on December 14th – reportedly with stab wounds, according to NBC News – Jackson shared an update about Nick.

On December 15th, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that officers had determined the Reiners were victims of homicide.

I still can’t believe it. The police just released another statement, and it’s… it’s Nick. Nick Reiner, Robert and Michele’s son! Apparently, he’s the one who… who did this. They’ve arrested him for murder, and they say he’s not getting out. No bail. It’s just… devastating. I’ve followed Robert and Michele for years, and to think their own son… I just can’t wrap my head around it.

Following the news of Nick’s arrest, several sources reported to People magazine that he had a disagreement with the director of When Harry Met Sally at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on December 13th. Additionally, friends and family members told the Los Angeles Times they observed Nick behaving oddly during the party.

Rob and Michele Reiner’s family, including their children Jake, 34, and Romy, 27, shared a statement expressing their deep sadness after their parents passed away.

We are deeply saddened to announce the deaths of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a spokesperson told Variety on December 14th. “We appreciate your understanding and request privacy as we cope with this incredibly painful loss.

Rob’s adopted daughter, Tracy Reiner, also shared her reaction to his death. He adopted Tracy while married to his late ex-wife, Penny Marshall.

The 61-year-old actress, known for her role in A League of Their Own, said she comes from a wonderful family and was completely stunned by the news. “I don’t know what to say,” she told NBC News.

Long before Rob and Michele Singer Reiner passed away, their son, Nick Reiner, openly discussed his own battle with addiction. He even worked with his father on the 2015 film Being Charlie, which explored the topic of substance abuse.

Nick explained that he had been to rehab 17 times before turning 30. 

In a 2016 interview with People magazine, he recounted experiencing homelessness in three different states: Maine, New Jersey, and Texas. He described spending nights and weeks living on the streets, stating it was a difficult time.

Two years later, Nick recalled an instance when he “wrecked” his home while high on drugs. 

In a 2018 interview on the Dopey podcast, he described a period where he was heavily using stimulants – he believed it was cocaine and another drug – and stayed awake for days. This led to him damaging his guest house by punching things, after going through a difficult time for 10 rounds.

According to multiple sources at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on December 13th, director Rob Reiner and his 32-year-old son, Nick, had a significant argument. Friends of the family confirmed the fight to the L.A. Times, adding that guests observed Nick behaving oddly during the holiday celebration.

On December 14th, around 3:40 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department investigated a death at a home in Brentwood, California, following a call they received the day after a Christmas party.

According to a statement from the LAPD, officers found two people inside the home who were later identified as Robert and Michele Reiner.

The Robbery-Homicide Division’s Homicide Special Section began investigating how the deaths occurred.

Oh my gosh, I just heard from NBC News that the police are going to be talking to all of Rob Reiner’s family – can you believe it? It’s just… heartbreaking. He and his wife have three kids – Nick, Romy, and Jake – but it’s so much more than that. Rob was also like a dad to Tracy Reiner, Penny Marshall’s daughter, after Penny passed. I just feel so bad for everyone involved, it’s a huge family and they’re all going through so much right now.

Rob and Michele Reiner didn’t die from illness or old age; a source told NBC News they likely died from stab wounds.

After a first look at the evidence, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that the Reiners had been murdered.

Police determined that Rob and Michele’s son, Nick, caused their deaths. He wasn’t arrested until several hours after their bodies were discovered.

Police announced that Nick Reiner was arrested around 9:15 p.m. on December 15th. He has been charged with murder and is being held in jail without the possibility of bail.

After Rob’s death, Tracy said she’d seen her father the day before his passing. 

She told NBC News that she came from a wonderful family and was completely stunned, saying, ‘I don’t know what to say.’

Jane Fonda saw Rob and Michele the night before their tragic deaths.

The actress shared on Instagram on December 15th that she had seen them two nights prior, and they seemed healthy and happy. She added that she is devastated and shocked by the news.

Michelle Obama shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on December 15th that she and Barack Obama had plans to meet with Rob and Michele on the day they tragically passed away.
