Nicole Kidman Addresses New “Direction” Amid Keith Urban Breakup

Nicole Kidman has gotten used to big little life changes.

I was watching Nicole’s interview, you know, the one right before everything with Keith Urban went public, and she *hinted* at something big changing in her life. It was like she was bracing herself for a whole new chapter, and honestly, looking back, it was heartbreaking because you could just *feel* something was off. I’ve rewatched that clip a million times, trying to figure out what she meant, and now it all makes sense… it was about the divorce. I’m such a fan, I notice *everything*.

You know, as I’ve navigated my 50s, I’ve realized life has a funny way of surprising you. I often find myself thinking, ‘Haven’t I learned by now?’ because you plan and envision a certain path, only to discover things don’t always unfold as expected. It’s a constant reminder that even when you *think* you’ve got it all figured out, life still has a way of leading you down unexpected roads.

Although Nicole Kidman hadn’t publicly announced her separation when she did the interview in late August, news of her divorce filing from Keith Urban became known on October 8th. This timing adds a new layer of meaning to something she said during the interview, as she had officially started the process of ending their 19-year marriage just over a week before the news was published.

The Academy Award winner also talked about prioritizing her well-being and making difficult choices, like missing the 2024 Venice Film Festival—where she was scheduled to receive an award—following the passing of her mother, Janelle Kidman.

She remembered people urging her to attend the award ceremony, saying she had to go. But she sat quietly for a moment and firmly decided against it, stating, ‘I can’t, I don’t want to, and I won’t.’

She explained that she felt a strong obligation to be well-behaved, but now she’s also learning to prioritize her own well-being. She believes everyone, as Virginia Woolf once pointed out, has the right to protect themselves.

Nicole hasn’t said much publicly since her split. But at the Chanel fashion show in Paris on October 6th, she briefly talked about how she was doing before facing the cameras again.

As she told Vogue in a backstage video from the event, “I’m just very nervous, actually.”

Honestly, seeing her was everything, but I was SO worried! Thankfully, she brought Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret with her – those girls are amazing and seemed to really help her relax. And it was just wonderful to see her supporting Matthieu Blazy, Chanel’s new creative director – he’s so talented, and she’s always been so supportive of her friends. It made the whole thing even more special, seeing her happy for him.

She told *Vogue* she was thrilled for Matthieu, calling this a major milestone in his career. She expressed her excitement at being able to celebrate his first show with Chanel and the start of what she anticipates will be a fantastic partnership.

And for the Practical Magic star, it was a mother-daughter night out to remember.

I was absolutely thrilled to be at the Chanel show with my friends! It was such an amazing experience, and I’m so grateful to Chanel and Matthieu Blazy for including us. I shared some pictures on Instagram to capture the magic!
