Nintendo is preparing for a large launch of its new Switch 2 console. Bloomberg reports the company is working closely with manufacturers to produce up to 25 million units by March 2026, aiming to meet high demand.
The report indicates that meeting these production goals will likely lead to record console sales for Nintendo, particularly during the first year of the Switch 2’s release. Nintendo is also anticipating strong sales during the upcoming holiday season and continuing into the following year.
Nintendo now expects to exceed earlier sales forecasts for the Switch 2. Analysts had predicted 17.6 million units sold by March, but increased production suggests Nintendo is confident they’ll reach around 20 million units.
Nintendo’s latest sales numbers, from their August report, show they’ve sold 5.82 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. The original Switch continues to be popular, with a total of 153.10 million units sold. Game sales for the Switch 2 are also strong, reaching 8.67 million copies.
Just to give you some perspective, Nintendo also looked back at how their older consoles did. The Wii U, for example, only sold about 13.56 million units total, and people bought around 103.60 million games for it. But the 3DS? That handheld did way better – almost 76 million units sold, and a massive 392.28 million games! It’s interesting to see how those numbers compare to what they’re seeing now.
The original Nintendo Switch has become the company’s best-selling home console ever. It’s surpassed even the Wii, which sold 101.63 million consoles and 921.85 million games. To date, the Switch has sold an impressive 1.4 billion games since it first launched.
The Nintendo Switch 2 became available in June and costs $449.99. Several games launched with the console, including *Mario Kart World*, a new racing game from Nintendo. This game also set a new price point for Nintendo titles, costing $80. A bundle including both the console and *Mario Kart World* was available for $499.99, offering the best value for those planning to buy the game.
