Nintendo Music is now available on more than just phones! A recent update lets you enjoy the service on browsers, tablets, and even your car’s display. Plus, Nintendo Switch Online members can now stream music from Mario Kart World, giving them even more ways to listen to their favorite Nintendo game soundtracks.
Nintendo Music Expands Beyond Phones
The biggest change in this update is that you can now enjoy Nintendo Music on computers! You can listen to, explore, and manage your music library using a web browser on your PC or laptop. Even better, anyone can preview the music selection without a Nintendo Switch Online membership, although a membership is still needed to fully use the service.
This update improves support for tablets, offering full-screen browsing in both landscape and portrait modes. Drivers can now use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to control music and playlists directly from their car’s display. Nintendo notes you can manage your music with voice commands while driving, and the app also works with Siri on Apple devices and voice control through Android Auto.
The latest update to the Nintendo app, version 1.6.0, now works on iPads and tablets, and is compatible with CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes voice control and a search function. Along with a general update to Nintendo Music, users can now enjoy the web browser player and music from Mario Kart World.
My Mix Adds Personalized Playlists
This update includes a new feature called My Mix, which creates personalized playlists based on the music you listen to. You can use it on your phone, tablet, and in your car with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Just note that My Mix isn’t available when you’re accessing the service through a web browser.
It’s important to remember that Nintendo calls this a ‘play history,’ not a ‘listening history.’ This is the specific wording Nintendo uses when explaining how My Mix functions.
Mario Kart World Music Joins the Library
Nintendo has just added the soundtrack from Mario Kart World to Nintendo Music! According to reports from Nintendo Life and Vooks, this initial release includes 130 songs totaling over 4 hours of music. More tracks, specifically those from the Free Roam mode, will be added in future updates.
Nintendo has announced that music from Mario Kart World is now included in their music service, but it’s important to note that this isn’t the complete soundtrack. The service currently offers over 250 hours of music from more than 130 games, and this music is only available in the browser version.
Nintendo Music Is Still Tied to Switch Online
Nintendo Music isn’t a separate app – it’s a perk for Nintendo Switch Online members. You need both a Nintendo Switch Online subscription and a Nintendo Account to access the complete music library. While anyone can sample some music through a web browser preview, the full collection requires an active subscription.
This update doesn’t include an app for Nintendo Switch or the new Switch 2. Instead, it expands access to web browsers, tablets, CarPlay, and Android Auto – meaning it’s not a dedicated app for consoles.
Why This Update Matters
Okay, so before this update, Nintendo Music was really just something to listen to on your phone, and honestly, I didn’t use it that much. But now? It’s a total game changer! They added support for computers, which is awesome because I can listen while I’m working. Plus, it looks great on tablets with the bigger screen. And the best part? I can finally listen to all my favorite Nintendo tunes in the car with CarPlay and Android Auto! Seriously, this makes it something I’ll use all the time.
The new Mario Kart World feature is a major draw for the Switch 2, but the bigger, lasting improvement is that Nintendo is expanding its platform reach. Nintendo Music is evolving into a useful streaming service, going beyond just being a fun extra.
