Doug Bowser, president and COO of Nintendo of America, will be stepping down on December 31, 2025, after serving in various leadership positions at the company for over ten years, Nintendo announced.
Devon Pritchard, a seasoned leader with 19 years of experience in the video game industry and a long-time member of Nintendo of America’s leadership, will take over from Bowser. Pritchard will also join the Nintendo of America board and become an executive officer at Nintendo Co.
Satoru Shibata, a key leader at Nintendo in Japan, is taking on the additional role of CEO at Nintendo of America. He will continue to fulfill his current responsibilities alongside this new position.
Bowser recently shared that one of his first video game memories is playing the original Donkey Kong arcade game. He stated that he and his family have been Nintendo fans ever since. He expressed how honored he’s been to lead Nintendo of America and is proud of the team’s success in both sales and creating enjoyable experiences for players.
Bowser explained that it was time for new leadership, and Devon was the perfect choice. He highlighted her proven success and emphasized that her promotion recognized her outstanding work and the valuable role she’s played in the company’s progress. He’s certain she’ll lead the company to continued success.
Pritchard expressed his excitement and humility about his new position, acknowledging the strong mentorship he received from Doug. He plans to continue building on the success Doug helped create, focusing on both rewarding longtime Nintendo fans with innovative experiences and attracting new players to the Nintendo community. He believes Nintendo’s diverse characters and worlds provide something for everyone.
As a Nintendo fan, it’s a little sad to hear about Doug stepping down, but honestly, he did so much to make Nintendo games and products awesome and bring joy to players like me. I really appreciate everything he did. Now, Devon’s taking over, and I’m feeling optimistic! He’s been with Nintendo for a long time too, and I’m sure he’ll keep that same focus on making fun, smile-inducing experiences for everyone. I’m excited to see what he brings to the table!
