Nintendo has revealed plans to establish a new office in Singapore. This move aims to expand its reach into growing markets across Southeast Asia. The new entity, named Nintendo Singapore, will be led by Takahiro Miura, who will serve as managing director.
Although Nintendo hasn’t revealed specific details about its plans for its Singapore office, the company also mentioned it’s exploring the possibility of creating a local business in Thailand. This move is intended to strengthen Nintendoās presence and operations throughout Southeast Asia. Currently, Nintendo Singapore has a registered capital of SGD $8 million, and Nintendo has fully funded this entire amount.
Okay, so it’s kinda wild – on the very same day Nintendo Singapore officially launched, we found out Doug Bowser is stepping down as president and COO of Nintendo of America. I mean, talk about a busy news cycle! He’s planning to retire at the end of 2025, December 31st to be exact. But don’t worry, Nintendo isn’t leaving us hanging – they’re bringing in Devon Pritchard, who’s been in the gaming world for 19 years, and Satoru Shibata to take over. It’s a big change, but hopefully, they’ll keep the good times rolling! I’m really curious to see what they bring to the table.
āI first really got into video games when I played the arcade game Donkey Kong,ā explained Bowser in a statement announcing his retirement. āEver since then, my family and I have always loved everything Nintendo. Itās been an incredible honor to lead Nintendo of America, and Iām really proud of all our team has achieved, both in terms of business success and the fun experiences weāve created for players.ā
It’s now the right time for new leadership, and Devon has consistently proven her abilities. Sheās a truly outstanding leader, and this promotion recognizes both her excellent work and the valuable strategies sheās brought to our companyās success. I am completely confident she will lead us to achieve even more in the future.
For ten years, Bowser has been with Nintendo of America, starting in 2015 as vice president of sales and marketing. His successful work, including leading the sales and marketing for the initial launch of the Nintendo Switch, led to his promotion to senior vice president of sales and marketing. He then took over from Reggie Fils-AimƩ as president and COO of Nintendo of America when Reggie retired in 2019.
Nintendo is growing its presence in Southeast Asia shortly after releasing its newest console, the Nintendo Switch 2. Although the system has done very well in certain areas, sales have decreased in others. Specifically, reports show that Spain has seen the Switch 2 fall behind the PS5 in terms of console sales. This expansion likely aims to bolster overall numbers and tap into new markets. Itās a strategic move following a mixed reception to the Switch 2 in various regions.
According to a host of the Vandal Radio podcast, the PS5 has outsold the Switch 2 for the past month and a half, based on reported sales figures. They also suggested that Nintendo isnāt pleased with the performance of games not developed by them. Specifically, aside from Cyberpunk, few third-party titles are seeing strong sales.
