Even though the Nintendo Switch 2 is anticipated to do well, Nintendo also seems to be working on improvements to its existing Switch. A user on social media, dootsky.re, found a listing for a new model number on the Nintendo Account website. This new model appears to be distinct from other Switch versions.
The new Nintendo Switch spotted by dootsky.re has a model code of “OSM”, which is different from the “BEE” code previously associated with the Switch 2. Nintendo usually uses similar model codes for related devices – the original Switch, for example, used “HAC”, while other versions had codes like “HAD”, “HDH”, and “HGE”.
Typing “OSM” into the address bar shows a picture that appears to be a Switch 2. However, it’s not a clear, detailed image—instead, it’s an SVG, a simpler image format commonly used for websites because it scales well on different screens. Because the image is less detailed, it’s hard to tell exactly how this version differs from the standard Switch 2.
Honestly, that graphic of the new console is probably just a temporary stand-in. Nintendo loves to release different versions of their consoles pretty quickly after the first one comes out. We’ve seen it before – the original Switch got the Switch Lite and the OLED model, and if you go back to the 3DS, there was the 3DS XL, the New 3DS, the 2DS… they always mix things up! So, whatever this first image shows isn’t necessarily what the final product will look like.
It’s common for game consoles to receive updates mid-way through their lifespan – even the PlayStation 5 has seen a slimmer version and a more powerful Pro model. Microsoft hasn’t typically followed this pattern with the current Xbox, but they did release the more powerful Xbox One X during the previous generation.
If the rumored “OSM” model is actually a Switch 2 Lite, it will likely have less powerful hardware to make it more affordable. Similar to the original Switch Lite, this version would probably be designed for handheld gaming only, meaning it wouldn’t have detachable Joy-Con controllers. Other changes might also be made to improve comfort during extended handheld play.
Okay, so the Nintendo Switch 2 finally dropped in June 2025, and it’s been doing pretty well! Nintendo announced in November they’d already sold over 10 million consoles, which is awesome. But things slowed down a bit towards the end of the year – sales in November and December weren’t as strong as they were for the original Switch when it first came out. A little disappointing, but still, 10 million is a huge number!

I’ve found something curious on Nintendo’s account portal. There’s a model code listed as “OSM” that doesn’t seem to be in use – the current Switch 2 uses the code “BEE”. When I requested an image for the “OSM” code, the portal actually showed a picture of the Switch 2, which is quite strange.

A lot of people are guessing that ‘OSM’ is the model number for the Switch 2, but honestly, no one knows for sure what it is! Nintendo uses model numbers starting with letters – the original Switch was ‘HAC’, and later versions were ‘HAD’, ‘HDH’, and ‘HEG’. I previously predicted the Switch 2 would be ‘BEE’, and ‘OSM’ doesn’t fit that pattern. 🤔

Just to confirm, this image is identical to the one used for the current Switch 2. It’s not a new image; it’s the same SVG file. Please don’t make assumptions about the operating system based on this visual.
