Nintendo recently updated the Switch 2 with firmware version 21.0.1. The same update is also available for the original Switch. It mainly fixes problems that caused error codes 2011-0301 and 2168-0002 to appear when users tried to transfer data between the two consoles using a local connection.
This update fixes a previous issue and resolves a problem that prevented wireless controllers and Bluetooth devices from connecting after waking up from sleep or turning off Airplane Mode. It also includes general improvements to make the system more stable. You can find a complete list of changes in the patch notes below.
This new update builds on a previous one released earlier this month. The earlier update improved the look and feel of the consoles’ menus, adding icons to show whether games were purchased digitally or as physical copies. This latest update further enhances the experience, particularly with GameChat. Now, games won’t automatically go to sleep while you’re using GameChat, making it more convenient.
While the recent update offered improvements, many users reported a problem: third-party docks for the Switch 2 stopped functioning after installation. One user shared, “A friend’s inexpensive Switch 2 dock broke after the update.” Another speculated that Nintendo didn’t intentionally change how docks work, as the official Nintendo dock would have automatically updated if they had.
Another user reported that their docking station (made by a different company) also stopped working immediately after today’s update. They said simply restarting it didn’t solve the problem.
The problem probably happened because the recent update caused conflicts with some software. Like the original Switch, the Switch 2’s USB-C port doesn’t follow standard specifications, and this can cause compatibility issues with certain accessories, such as docks. We’ve seen similar problems with docks on the original Switch before, and this particular issue wasn’t mentioned in the update notes.
Even with some initial challenges, the Switch 2 is a big hit for Nintendo. Company president Shuntaro Furukawa shared that over 84% of people who bought the new console had previously owned the original Switch.
Patch notes for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 update 21.0.1:

- General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.
