For over a decade, Nintendo’s amiibo series has evolved, offering various interpretations of the concept. The standard plastic figurines are the most prevalent, but there have also been amiibo cards, plush toys, and Power-Up Bands that can be scanned and used across Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios. What sets all amiibo apart is their ability to unlock additional features within various video games. In a unique twist, Nintendo is introducing something new with the upcoming My Mario product line, where amiibo will play a role as well.
The My Mario collection offers an assortment of products tailored for younger enthusiasts. Among the new introductions is a wooden block set showcasing beloved Nintendo characters such as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and various items and Power-Ups from the franchise. As per Nintendo’s announcement, these wooden figures function similarly to standard amiibos, allowing them to be scanned in games like “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” and “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.” Since the introduction of amiibos, collectors have shown great enthusiasm, suggesting that demand for these items might extend beyond the intended age group!
Currently, Nintendo hasn’t revealed plans for a domestic launch of the wood block figures from the My Mario promotion yet. However, some products from this promotion are expected to hit U.S. stores in 2026. Given their appeal to both young fans and collectors, it seems likely that a set featuring these characters would be released. Until official confirmation arrives, we can only speculate. For those who already own the traditional amiibo versions of these Mario figures, they might prefer to continue using those if the wood block figures remain exclusive to Japan.
Nintendo initially introduced the amiibo concept during the peak of the popular toys-to-life trend, which included games such as Skylanders, Disney Infinity, and LEGO Dimensions. Although these toy lines and their associated games have since ceased production, Nintendo’s amiibo line has persisted for 11 years with a consistent flow of new releases. Recently, we’ve witnessed the creation of toys related to games like “Street Fighter 6,” “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” and “Donkey Kong Bananza.” These latest amiibo figures have followed more traditional design routes compared to this fresh Mario block set.
Over the course of the amiibo line’s existence, many enthusiasts have expressed concerns about how long it will remain active. Lately, there has been a spike in prices, apparently due to tariff-related issues in the US. This potential issue could impact the line’s future, as Nintendo fans may find themselves in difficult situations when deciding which amiibos to purchase and which ones to leave unpurchased on store shelves.
