Nioh 3 is Getting “High-Difficulty” Battle Scrolls, New Skills, and More on April 27th

I just finished Nioh 3, including all the extra content in Shogun’s Journey, and was feeling pretty powerful… but apparently, that’s not the end! Koei Tecmo is releasing a bunch of super challenging ‘Battle Scrolls‘ on April 27th with a free update. Basically, these are like extra side missions that let you revisit and replay some of the toughest fights in the game, which sounds awesome!

So, besides just being a good way to challenge myself, the producer, Kohei Shibata, said these side quests actually unlock new skills! Plus, there’s this thing called the Stone of Penance – basically, it lets you upgrade your accessories and make them rarer, but you have to earn it by tackling harder difficulties. It’s a trade-off, but totally worth it if you want the best gear.

This update also tweaks the balance of some character abilities, called “Graces.” You’ll find a full list of these changes in the official patch notes when they’re released.

Nioh 3 is now available on both PlayStation 5 and PC. It quickly became the best-selling game in the series, reaching over a million copies sold soon after its release in February. In addition to free updates, two downloadable content packs are planned: Hell Rising, coming this September, and Bloody Insurrection, which will be released in February 2027.

Players can expect new stories, enemies, bosses, items, and Yokai in the upcoming content. Based on past games, it’s likely Team Ninja will also add more challenging difficulty settings. Keep an eye out for future updates, and if you haven’t already, check out our review of the original game, where we gave it a 9/10 for its fantastic combat, expansive levels, and impressive boss battles.
