Inside Eddie Murphy’s Growing Family Tree, Including Newest Grandkid

Well, now it’s officially official, Eddie Murphy and pal Martin Lawrence are locked in, for life. 

As Eddie Murphy recently shared, his son Eric and Martin Lawrence’s daughter Jasmin recently had a baby, making Eddie a grandfather!

Eddie announced to TopMob News at the American Film Institute awards on April 18th that he and his partner recently had a baby girl named Ari Skye, arriving either two or one weeks ago.

Even though Eddie Murphy already has a large family – ten children and another grandchild coming soon – he wasn’t about to tell anyone what to do.

He explained that instead of giving direct advice, it’s more effective to lead by example. He pointed out that children don’t necessarily follow what you tell them, but rather what you do – they learn by observing your actions.

He explained that giving them advice wouldn’t be effective. “They wouldn’t listen to me if I talked about things like sleep routines,” he joked. “They learn by watching what I do, so I mostly just lead by example and don’t offer much advice.”

Even while receiving a lifetime achievement award from the American Film Institute, he made sure to tell his ten children that they are his greatest accomplishment.

The actor, who has done a lot of work, said that what truly matters to him isn’t his career. He believes his children are his most important achievement and what he’ll be remembered for.

And it’s continuing to grow. 

Bria Murphy, who has been married to Michael Xavier since 2022, announced she is expecting a baby in November. The new arrival will join her brother Myles Murphy’s daughters, Evie and Zuri, as well as baby Ari, making a growing family!

Eddie and his wife, Paige Butcher, had a son, Max Murphy, seven months before their daughter Evie was born in July 2019.

In 2020, Eddie told Vanity Fair that he feels strongly connected to the natural rhythms of life, and right now, nothing brings him more joy than his children and grandchildren. He believes that being a parent and a grandparent are the greatest blessings someone could ask for.

Eddie Murphy has a large family! He shares son Eric Murphy with Paulette McNeely, and has five children – Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola, and Bella – with his ex-wife Nicole Murphy. He also has Christian Murphy with Tamara Hood, Angel Murphy with Mel B, and Izzy and Max with his current wife, Paige Butcher.

Despite his children spanning a wide age range – nearly 30 years between his oldest and youngest – Eddie says his parenting approach has remained consistent. He described himself as a laid-back, supportive dad who attends school events but doesn’t tolerate misbehavior.

However, he admitted to being more lenient with his youngest children, Izzy and Max, allowing them more freedom and fun.

Eric Murphy, born in July 1989, is Eddie Murphy’s oldest son from his relationship with Paulette McNeely. Unlike his father, who is famous on camera, Eric prefers to work behind the scenes, doing voiceover work for projects like Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate, Megamind Rules!, and even some of his father’s films.

In a July 2024 Instagram post, Eric explained that he recently used his similar voice to do ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement – re-recording dialogue in a studio) for his dad in the new Beverly Hills Cop movie, calling it a “fun and incredible experience.”

He also found love with a little help from his father. Eric married Jasmin Lawrence, the daughter of Martin Lawrence (a frequent co-star of Eddie Murphy), in May 2025, with both fathers’ blessing.

Eddie Murphy shared with CBS Sunday Mornings that he and Martin thought it was “cool” that their children were together, noting that everyone joked about how funny their future child would be.

The couple shared in February 2026 that they were expecting a baby. Two months later, Eddie announced the birth of their daughter, Ari Skye.

Nicole Murphy (born Nicole Mitchell) and Eddie Murphy met at an after-party for the NAACP Image Awards and married in 1993. They had five children together: Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola, and Bella. Though they divorced in 2005 after 12 years of marriage, they remained friendly.

Nicole shared in a July 2024 interview with HYPE+, “My kids adore their dad, and I’ll always have love for Eddie. We’re cool, we’re good, we’re friends.”

She’s chosen to keep the Murphy surname, stating she earned it after years of marriage and because her children share the name. She added that changing a name is a process.

Nicole, who appeared on VH1’s Hollywood Exes from 2012 to 2014, has also been linked to other celebrities. She was previously engaged to Michael Strahan, but they ended their relationship in 2014 after seven years.

Bria, Eddie Murphy’s eldest daughter with Nicole, was born in November 1989, just a few months after her brother Eric. Like her father, she’s passionate about acting. In 2024, she appeared in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, playing a fellow officer, and her husband, Michael Xavier, was also in the film, making it a true family project.

Bria admitted she was initially nervous about working with her dad, worried about accidentally hurting him during a scene. However, she ultimately enjoyed the experience, telling Entertainment Tonight in June 2024 how lucky she felt to be part of such a significant film.

This wasn’t Bria’s first time acting alongside her father; she also appeared in Daddy Day Care in 2003. Beyond that, she has credits in The Perfect Match, The Game, and Conflict of Interest. Bria is also a painter. In November 2025, she and Michael announced they were expecting their first child.

Eddie Murphy had another son, Christian, with Tamara Hood in November 1990, between the births of his children Bria and Myles with Nicole. While Christian generally stays out of the spotlight, he occasionally shares glimpses of his life on Instagram, posting pictures with his siblings at holidays and with their father at red carpet events. He once playfully called his family the “Best looking family in #america” in a post alongside a photo from the premiere of Eddie’s 2016 film, Mr. Church.

Myles, Eddie Murphy’s youngest son with Nicole, was born in November 1992. He generally stays out of the public eye, but has occasionally appeared on red carpets at premieres for his father’s films like Mr. Church, The Nutty Professor, and Nutty Professor II: The Klumps. His wife, Carly Murphy, whom he married in September 2023, shares glimpses of their family life – including their daughters Evie (born July 2019) and Zuri (born October 2024) – on Instagram, often featuring moments with Eddie. If you watched season two of the reality show Claim to Fame in 2023, you probably remember Shayne. After being eliminated, she received a heartwarming message from her father.

In a video played at the end of the episode, Eddie, Shayne’s father (born October 1994 to Nicole), told her, “Shayne, I love you so very much, and I’m so proud of you, my baby girl.”

Shayne expressed her love right back, saying her father is “a legendary comedian and entertainer, but beyond that, he is the best dad in the world.”

Besides appearing on reality TV, Shayne is also a creator, producing food and art content under the name Shayne’s Kitchen on social media.

Born on Christmas Eve in 1999, Zola is considered by her mother, Nicole, to be the greatest Christmas gift she’s ever received. Zola appeared on her mother’s reality show, Hollywood Exes, alongside her sisters Bria, Shayne, and Bella. Although she’s occasionally joined her family at red carpet events, she now primarily shares updates with fans on Instagram, posting about her travels, style, and other interests.

Like her sister Bria, Bella has also caught the acting bug and appeared in her father’s 2021 film, Coming 2 America. Despite her family connections, she still had to audition for the role.

“I just wanted to do a good job,” Bella explained in an interview with Good Morning America in February 2021. “I didn’t want people to think I was only cast because of my dad, or that I couldn’t keep up with the other actors.”

She certainly didn’t disappoint. Her father, Eddie, shared how proud he was, saying on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast, “Even something simple like a child’s drawing on the fridge can make you emotional. So to see my daughter working alongside me on set, contributing, and doing a great job—including performing fight scenes—it filled me with pride every single day.”

Mel B (Melanie Brown) started dating Eddie Murphy in 2006. She remembers feeling a strong connection when they first met at a dinner party, so much so that she left because it felt overwhelming. However, she always appreciated that he was a family-oriented and respectful man, and they dated privately for a while.

She thought they were on the same page about their future, especially after planning their wedding and discovering she was pregnant – something she believed Eddie wanted. But she was unexpectedly broken up with after taking a few days to consider the relationship.

The couple split by the end of 2006, and their daughter, Angel, was born in April 2007. Initially, Eddie questioned if he was the father, but a DNA test confirmed he was. Despite the difficult end to their relationship, Mel B has always held a special place in her heart for Eddie. Eddie and Paige made their relationship public four years before welcoming their daughter, Izzy, in May 2016. Eddie, known from Saturday Night Live, later shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show how much he loves being a father, saying his nine children bring him joy and he’d happily have even more if Paige agreed.

She did agree, and in November 2018, they welcomed their son, Max. Despite getting married in July 2024, Eddie and Paige prefer to keep their children’s lives private and don’t post photos of them on social media. This is largely due to Paige’s decision to step away from platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter years ago.

Paige explained to Vanity Fair in 2013 that being in a relationship with a celebrity made her feel overexposed. She wanted to protect her privacy and limit the amount of personal information available to the public, believing that anything shared could be used against them. She also admitted she wasn’t very active on social media, mostly posting about her volunteer work.
