Now That Scarlett Johansson Is in The Batman Part II, Another MCU Alum Should Join Her (& I Know Who They Should Play)

The Marvel and DC universes have often shared actors, and with James Gunn now leading DC Studios, it’s expected more will follow. He’s already talked to Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, and Zoe Saldaña about potential roles, and Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, and Nathan Fillion have already appeared in DC projects. However, Matt Reeves, another director working with Warner Bros. Discovery, isn’t letting Gunn have all the fun. He recently successfully recruited a major star from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for The Batman Part II.

Scarlett Johansson is likely to star in the upcoming sequel, and sources suggest she’ll be playing a villain – a departure from her well-known heroic roles. After years playing Black Widow, a character many consider to be one of Earth’s greatest heroes (alongside another Avenger), this will be a fresh challenge for Johansson and an exciting twist for fans. Interestingly, the actor who plays that other Avenger is also reportedly being considered for a role in the same project.

The Batman Part II Should Reunite Two of the Original Avengers

Black Widow and Hawkeye share a strong bond in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it all started with a pivotal moment: when Hawkeye was sent to eliminate Black Widow but couldn’t go through with it. This act of compassion sparked a close friendship, built on mutual support and shared secrets during their missions. Later, as Hawkeye tries to leave the spy life behind, Black Widow finds a new ally in Captain America. Although he’s hesitant to trust her initially, working together to defeat HYDRA helps them forge a strong partnership.

Natasha Romanoff and Steve Rogers developed a close friendship, with Natasha becoming Steve’s confidante, especially after the loss of Peggy Carter. Their bond deepened when they became fugitives together and faced the challenges of Avengers: Infinity War. Though Steve wasn’t present when Natasha died in Avengers: Endgame, her death deeply affected him, allowing Chris Evans to deliver a powerfully emotional farewell. Now, with the opportunity to revisit these characters, Reeves can expand on the established Marvel Cinematic Universe relationship between Johansson and Evans.

Chris Evans Is Everything That The Batman Part II Needs

If Johansson’s character is headed for trouble, she’ll need allies. Trying to navigate Gotham City alone would be like a small fish in a very big pond. To truly establish herself, she needs to make connections with those on the side of the law. Harvey Dent is a common figure in Batman stories – a good man initially, but ultimately corrupted by Gotham’s darkness. However, The Batman Part II needs more than just anyone to play Dent opposite Johansson’s character; they need an actor who can convincingly portray someone capable of walking the line between good and evil.

In Knives Out, Chris Evans plays Ransom Drysdale, a truly unpleasant and entitled character. He fully commits to making Ransom someone you love to hate, hinting at a darker side that isn’t fully revealed until the very end of the film, transforming him from an irritating person into a genuinely menacing villain. Evans could explore similar complex character work if he collaborates with Keanu Reeves again and takes on a role that’s the complete opposite of his heroic Captain America persona.

The Batman Part II hits theaters on October 1, 2027.
