Now You See Me 4 Will ‘Reset’ the Franchise, Confirms Producer Bobby Cohen

Producer Bobby Cohen hints that the upcoming Now You See Me 4 could be a significant departure for the series. Following the release of the third Now You See Me film this November – almost ten years after the second – and positive initial reviews, fans are curious about how long it will be before another installment appears, wondering if they’ll have to wait until the 2030s.

Speaking with TopMob’s Russ Milheim to promote the third film, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t producer Bobby Cohen talked about the story for Now You See Me 4, saying that the narrative gets “to kind of reset a little bit” after the Horsemen “can kind of operate in the sunlight again” by the end of the recently released threequel. Instead of using their skills for nefarious purposes, they can now get back to doing what they do so they can “[put] on a great show,” first and foremost:

Without spoiling too much, the movie allows the Horsemen to start fresh. A major change is that, for reasons viewers will understand, they can finally operate openly, even in daylight. They won’t have to remain on the run anymore. This opens up exciting possibilities – imagine them performing for huge crowds who are amazed not only by their heroic deeds and skills, but also by their incredible showmanship. They can return to being a fantastic, high-energy super band and put on a truly spectacular performance.

Cohen discussed the possibility of a fourth film, suggesting it wouldn’t take as long to produce as the current one. He also explained that Lionsgate gave the go-ahead for a fourth movie even before the third film came out. Unlike most studios, which usually wait to see how a movie performs before planning a sequel, Cohen praised Lionsgate for being forward-thinking and continuing the story.

I won’t keep this long. Ruben and I were thrilled to finish shooting the movie. The final part was filmed in Abu Dhabi, and with just a few nights left, Lionsgate called us. They’ve been fantastic partners and said they’d seen enough and wanted to start planning the next film. As filmmakers, that’s incredibly rewarding. Most studios usually wait until a movie is released, or at least see a rough cut, before deciding if it’s successful. But Lionsgate, like they were from the start, recognized we had a really innovative idea and believed our new cast would not only match the original actors but surpass them.

The third installment in the Now You See Me series, titled Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, is directed by Ruben Fleischer, who also directed Venom. The film brings back the original Four Horsemen – Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, and Isla Fisher – alongside a new generation of magicians. Together, they plan a daring heist to steal a massive diamond from a dishonest wealthy woman. Now You See Me: Now You Don’t is currently playing in movie theaters (find exclusive interviews about Now You See Me 3 here).

What Could Happen in Now You See Me 4?

Lionsgate gave the go-ahead for Now You See Me 4 in April 2025, well before the third film came out, suggesting they’re optimistic about keeping the series going smoothly. With a possible TV series also in the works, Now You See Me 3 lays the groundwork for an exciting future for this magical story.

Okay, so after our heroes dealt with the latest bad guy, the Horsemen – now a bigger team – got a surprise package. It was a message from Dylan Rhodes, played by Mark Ruffalo, officially welcoming the new members into this secret society called the Eye. It’s interesting because Ruffalo’s still busy being the Hulk in the Marvel universe, but his former FBI partner in the film hinted that this isn’t the end for the Horsemen – they’ve got more challenges ahead, apparently.

Lionsgate announced at CinemaCon in April that a fourth Now You See Me movie is in the works, suggesting fans won’t have to wait another nine years for a new installment.

The director, Fleischer, has said that filming the next Now You See Me movie will need to work around Mark Ruffalo’s availability, as they’re planning a larger role for him. Because Ruffalo is likely to be filming at least one, and possibly both, of the upcoming Avengers films (scheduled for December 2026 and December 2027), it’s hard to say when production on Now You See Me 4 can start, unless they find a free period in his schedule between Marvel projects.

Despite some remaining uncertainties, Lionsgate believes a new installment of Now You See Me will likely be announced soon.
