Number 10 cast: Who stars in the Channel 4 drama from Steven Moffat?

Ever wondered what goes on inside Number 10?

Steven Moffat, known for his work on shows like Sherlock and Doctor Who, has created a new six-episode series for Channel 4. It takes viewers inside the world behind the iconic black door of 10 Downing Street, but it’s less a suspenseful political drama and more a funny and relatable look at the people who work there.

The story intentionally doesn’t focus on the details of the government; instead, Steven Moffat is more interested in exploring the building where it’s housed – from the Prime Minister’s office on the top floor to the coffee shop in the basement run by someone who believes in conspiracies.

The Prime Minister is played by Spall, with Katherine Kelly (known from Coronation Street) as his Chief of Staff and Jenna Coleman (from Doctor Who) as her assistant. Coleman and Moffat are working together again, just like when she played Clara Oswald.

Ben Palmer directed this project, which is produced by Hartswood Films. It marks Steven Moffat’s first work since ‘Douglas Is Cancelled’ on ITV.

Here’s a guide to the actors and characters appearing in the drama.

Rafe Spall as Harry Douglas

The series centers around a Prime Minister who is struggling to manage both the country and his own life, often working from his attic in Downing Street. Actor Timothy Spall describes the show as a funny, realistic, and exciting piece of television.

You might recognize Rafe Spall from his leading role as Jason Ross in the Apple TV comedy Trying. He also received an International Emmy nomination for his performance in the Black Mirror special White Christmas, where he starred alongside Jon Hamm. Spall’s film credits include popular movies like Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Life of Pi, The Big Short, Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz. As a stage actor, he’s been nominated for an Olivier Award for his work in Constellations and Hedda Gabler.

Katherine Kelly as Frances Telford

We’ve gotten a first look at the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, who was seen petting the Downing Street cat. The staff member has called the job “delicious.”

You might recognize Katherine Kelly from her roles in several popular TV shows. She first gained attention playing Becky McDonald on Coronation Street from 2006 to 2012. Afterwards, she starred as Lady Mae Loxley in the period drama Mr Selfridge. More recently, she’s appeared in shows like Happy Valley, Doctor Who’s spin-off Class, Innocent, The Night Manager, Liar, and Mr Bates vs The Post Office. Kelly is a graduate of RADA, a prestigious drama school.

Jenna Coleman as Katie Flynn

This character is Telford’s Deputy Chief of Staff, and we first see her relaxing in an armchair while looking at her phone. This role marks a reunion between the actress and writer Moffat, who previously worked together on Doctor Who.

You probably recognize Jenna Coleman from her roles as Clara Oswald in Doctor Who, where she starred alongside Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi. She also played Queen Victoria in the ITV series Victoria, portrayed dual roles as Johanna Constantine in Netflix’s The Sandman, and most recently led the BBC crime drama The Jetty as Detective Ember Manning. Her other notable credits include appearances in Emmerdale, Waterloo Road, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Cry, and The Serpent.

Akshay Khanna

You might recognize Khanna from their recent role in the Apple TV sci-fi series, Murderbot, where they starred alongside Alexander Skarsgård.

Abigail Lawrie

Okay, so you might recognize her from a few things! I first noticed her in Tin Star on Sky Atlantic – she was fantastic as Anna Worth throughout all three seasons, and she even won a BAFTA Scotland award for it. More recently, she’s been leading No Escape on Paramount+, and she popped up in the second season of Good Omens as well as Strike: Troubled Blood. She’s quickly becoming someone I always look out for in the credits.

He’s also known for playing Dan Perkins in the BBC Three sitcom Him & Her, and the postman in Ricky Gervais’s After Life. Plus, he’s competed on Taskmaster (season 2) and Last One Laughing UK, and recently appeared on The Celebrity Traitors.

Richard Rankin

You might recognize him from his role as Roger MacKenzie in the Starz series Outlander, which he played from 2015. Now, he’s starring as a young Detective Sergeant John Rebus in the new BBC series Rebus. He’s also appeared in shows like Burnistoun, Thirteen, The Syndicate, and Trust Me.

Robyn Cara

You might recognize Cara from her role in the Apple TV+ series Trying, where she appears alongside Rafe Spall, who recently played a lead in Number 10.

Patrick Baladi

You might recognize Baladi from his roles as Neil Godwin, David Brent’s charming boss in The Office, and Jimmy Lakewell, the crooked lawyer in Line of Duty. He’s also appeared in shows like Bodies, Marcella, Mistresses, and Rev.
