NVIDIA says it’s delighted by Google’s success — but remains “the only platform that runs every AI model” with a generational lead in the industry

Google is receiving a lot of attention in the world of generative AI after launching Gemini 3, which shows significant improvements in understanding video, solving problems, and writing code. Even Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, have acknowledged that the Gemini team did an excellent job with the launch.

Even NVIDIA, a company that has thrived thanks to the growing demand for chips used in artificial intelligence (and is now worth $4 trillion), has expressed its pleasure with Google’s recent achievements, according to Tom’s Hardware.

Nvidia also took the chance to highlight its strengths, stating that it’s a generation ahead of its competitors. The company claims its platform is unique in its ability to run all types of AI models on any computing device, offering better performance and flexibility than specialized AI chips (ASICs) which are limited to specific tasks.

Recent reports suggest Meta is talking to Google about renting and possibly buying Google’s specialized computer chips, called Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), starting in 2026. This news caused both Alphabet (Google’s parent company) and Meta’s stock prices to jump. However, NVIDIA’s stock price fell by 3%.

Google’s Cloud TPUs and NVIDIA’s AI GPUs work differently. TPUs are specifically built for training and running AI models, while GPUs excel at general-purpose parallel processing – handling a massive number of calculations at the same time.

While speaking to CNBC, a Google spokesman indicated:

During an earnings call, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang confirmed growing demand for both their GPUs and Google’s custom TPUs. He emphasized NVIDIA’s continued support for both technologies, noting that Google is a customer for their GPU chips and that the Gemini AI model is compatible with NVIDIA’s hardware.
