Off Campus’ Mika Abdalla & Fiancé Jake Short Break Up, End Engagement

Mika Abdalla is skating into a new chapter.

The actress from Off Campus and her fiancé, Jake Short, have ended their engagement, according to her representative.

A representative for Abdalla told Us Weekly that, given the recent public interest in Mika’s private life, they wanted to confirm that she and Jake have broken up.

They are still supportive of each other and remain friends, and have asked for privacy and respect during this time.

Abdalla, 26, and Short, 29, acted together in the 2022 film Sex Appeal, where they played friends who fall in love. They started dating in real life after filming the movie.

Fans began to notice hints of a relationship between the two through casual posts on their Instagram accounts. In May 2025, Maisie Short’s manager, Brian Medavoy, officially announced their engagement on Instagram.

Medavoy shared photos from a lovely garden party celebrating the engagement of his client, Jake Short, and his fiancée, Mika Abdalla. He expressed his happiness for the couple, noting how wonderful it’s been to watch their relationship develop, and wished them a lifetime of happiness together.

Neither Short nor Abdalla has publicly commented on their breakup. The last photo of Short on Abdalla’s Instagram was posted in November.

Although Abdalla had been in several projects before, including Sex Appeal and the first season of The Pitt, it was her part as Allie Hayes in the Amazon Prime Video series Off Campus that really made her famous.

The first season of the series, inspired by the books of Elle Kennedy and featuring Ella Bright, Belmont Cameli, Antonio Cipriano, and Jalen Thomas Brooks, quickly gained popularity. Many viewers particularly loved the connection between Abdalla and Stephen Kalyn, who plays Dean DiLaurentis.

Viewers loved Abdalla and Kalyn as a couple so much that Amazon announced they would star in the second season of the show. Kalyn is actually engaged to Victoria Lovatsis in real life.

Showrunner Louisa Levy told Variety in May that all eight scripts for the new season are finished and that the plans for the season are very promising. She hinted that fans of the original books will have a lot to look forward to, but didn’t reveal any specific details just yet.

As for where the rest of Abdalla’s costars stand in their love lives, read on for more.

The actress, born in New York and raised in London, currently plays the character of Hannah, a dedicated songwriter, in the popular show Off Campus. She’s reportedly not dating anyone at the moment, but is open to whatever the future holds given her rising fame.

Bright told Vanity Fair she never expected her series to become so popular. “It completely changed my life for the better, in ways I always hoped for but never thought possible,” she said. “I’m achieving things I once thought were out of reach.”

Star hockey player Graham, known as the ‘big man on campus,’ needs to show Hannah that he’s just as great as a boyfriend as he is on the ice.

I’ve been following Cameli for a while now, and it looks like she’s been with Raina Morris, a TV writer, since at least March 2025! Cameli kind of slipped a photo of Raina into an Instagram carousel, and fans like me immediately noticed. It’s so sweet to see them together!

Maddie Abdalla, best known as Allie to Hannah’s Dean on the show with Stephen Kalyn, was previously engaged to her Sex Appeal co-star, Jake Short, but they ended their engagement in April 2026.

A representative for Abdalla confirmed to Us Weekly that Mika and Jake have broken up, following recent public interest in Mika’s personal life. The pair are still supportive of each other and remain friends, and have asked for privacy at this time.

Although Dean struggles with commitment, Kalyn’s fiancée, Victoria Lovatsis, has been a constant presence in his life since 2012.

In March 2024, Lovatsis hinted at an engagement by showing off a diamond ring on her Instagram. She was wearing the ring at the premiere of Off Campus in May, an event Kalyn might not have attended if Lovatsis hadn’t invited her.

The actor shared with Elite Daily that his fiancée was a fan of the books and especially loved the character Dean. When the TV show was announced, she insisted he try out for the role, telling him, ‘You absolutely have to play Dean.’

Garrett’s friend, John Logan, isn’t like the many other players on campus. And the actor who portrays him, Cipriano, has been in a committed relationship with Justine Verheul since 2023.

In August 2024, she celebrated one year with the person she loves most. Then, in May 2025, for her partner Cipriano’s 25th birthday, she wrote a heartfelt message calling him her life partner, travel companion, and best friend, and expressing how effortlessly joyful it is to celebrate him and how impressed she is by him every day.

John Tucker is a kind and thoughtful character, and like the calm nurse Mateo from The Pitt, he seems ready for a romantic storyline as the Off Campus series explores the Briar forward’s future relationships.

And the same goes for Brooks, who appears to be romantically unattached IRL for now.

I really enjoy stories that unfold gradually,” the Los Angeles native shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “I think viewers will especially appreciate the development of Tucker’s character – how he transforms into a kind and powerful figure.

The Australian actor won’t return for the second season of Off Campus because his character, Justin, wasn’t a good match for Hannah, who realized she didn’t have romantic feelings for him.

As a lifestyle and pop culture observer, I’ve been following the buzz around Justin’s storyline, and it sounds like there’s still hope! The show’s creator, Louisa Levy, shared with TV Guide that they didn’t get to introduce Justin’s eventual love interest, Stella, from the book. She hinted that they might bring him back in a future season to explore that relationship, so it’s possible he’s just taking a temporary break from the show, not leaving for good.

It doesn’t seem like Heuston is currently in a relationship, but he’s hoping to find someone in the future.

Heuston shared with Esquire Australia in 2025 that he eventually envisions a traditional life with kids and a house with a white picket fence. However, he feels that’s still a ways off, adding that life has taught him things can change unexpectedly.
