Marketing geniuses have found a creative way to extend their influence, and that’s by incorporating official popcorn buckets into the realm of video games too.
Sony, drawing inspiration from Japanese cinematography for their film Ghost of Yotei, is teaming up with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to air five timeless films that have influenced the forthcoming Sucker Punch sequel.
The event, named Way of the Samurai, will feature the following movies:
- Lady Snowblood (1973)
- Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (1972)
- The Tale of Zatoichi (1962)
- 13 Assassins (2011)
- Ran (1985)
In addition, you’ll find a menu inspired by the Ghost of Yotei, offering an array of appetizers, desserts, and cocktails. However, the main attraction is the impressive 100-ounce popcorn bucket, modeled after traditional Japanese rice buckets. This bucket will be available in cinemas from August 2nd to September 4th.
Regrettably, the appearance of what appears to be an ordinary item has sparked numerous controversial opinions on social media regarding the balance between story sequences and gameplay in Sony’s productions.
Since as far back as the PlayStation 3, Sony has faced criticism due to their focus on developing engaging narratives, a point that some gamers believe compromises the gaming experience itself.
Our view on this has always been: why not both.gif?
For instance, The Last of Us Part II isn’t merely an exhilarating, emotionally charged adventure – it’s also one of the most skillfully crafted third-person shooter games ever produced. This is why there was such anticipation for its now-cancelled multiplayer spin-off.
Regarding the specific game at hand, Sucker Punch has revealed very little about its narrative so far. In truth, during the latest State of Play, we mainly watched protagonist Atsu traverse the game’s stunning open landscape.
It’s frustrating to witness such laborious perspectives gaining popularity. We strongly oppose the notion that a game has to neglect storytelling in order to be enjoyable. Indeed, it is possible for a title to excel at both aspects, and Sony consistently demonstrates this with their creations!
