Spoilers for Stranger Things Season 5, Vols. 1 and 2 lie ahead.
As a huge fan, it’s hard to believe Stranger Things is almost over! We’re just days away from the final season dropping sometime in late 2025, bringing this incredible five-season run to a close. It’s a little different for the actors and everyone behind the scenes, though – they actually finished filming over a year ago and already had their goodbyes. Now that the end is really near, they’re starting to share what it was like wrapping up. Sadie Sink, for example, recently talked about what she was feeling leading up to and on her very last day of filming – it sounds incredibly emotional!
Sadie Sink became a popular cast member on Stranger Things starting with the second season, playing Max Mayfield. After being part of the show for so long, it’s understandable she had strong emotions when filming wrapped. She recently shared those feelings with SFX Magazine, describing the final table read as a deeply moving experience for both her and the rest of the cast.
I didn’t expect to feel emotional at the script read-through, but everyone ended up crying by the end. Knowing it was the last new script we’d ever read really hit us. Reaching the final page and seeing ‘End of Stranger Things’ made it feel incredibly real – it was truly the end.
That part of Sink’s story was really emotionally impactful. She hadn’t filmed her final scenes as Max yet when she experienced that moment. Later, the Fear Street actress described her “last day” and explained it felt strange above all else.
That final day was incredibly significant and something I’ll never forget. It felt strange – not sad, but everyone was tense and trying to enjoy every moment, really living in the present. We all knew something difficult was about to happen, and by the end of the day, that feeling had settled in – we understood what was coming.

The Duffer Brothers, creators of Stranger Things, recently revealed the science behind the Upside Down. They also shared how they chose which characters would be the ones to understand it.
Sadie Sink, like many of her fellow actors, announced the end of filming for Stranger Things in December 2024. She shared a collection of behind-the-scenes photos with the cast from over the years and expressed how thankful she was for the experience. Earlier this year, Sink also revealed she took home several items from the set, including a pair of Vans, some Kate Bush cassettes, and, as a gift, Max’s skateboard. Overall, it seems Sink feels good about finishing her time with the show and moving forward in her career.
Viewers are eager to find out what happens to Max in the show’s final episodes. The current season started with Max still in a coma after the events of the previous season. We later learned her mind was trapped by Vecna, but she was able to break free with help from Holly Wheeler and wake up. As the show nears its end, the group from Hawkins prepares for a final showdown with Vecna, and Max will help Eleven and Kali navigate his mind – even though they plan to risk everything to do so.
The future is uncertain for Max and the rest of the characters, and it’s possible some won’t survive the upcoming final battle. If that happens, viewers will likely be as emotional as the cast was when they first read the script. You can find out what happens to Max by watching the final episodes of Stranger Things on Netflix, premiering December 31st.
