Oliver Tree Dead at 32 After Helicopter Crash in Brazil

The music world is mourning one of their own.  

Oliver Tree, the musician behind popular songs like “Life Goes On” and “When I’m Done,” tragically died in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on June 14th. He was 32 years old, according to CNN Brazil and local police.

The singer was identified as one of six casualties after two helicopters collided while flying over an electric vehicle yard in the southwest zone of Rio, according to the outlet, setting at least 20 cars ablaze at the crash site. 

The other victims include passengers Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim (known as Argentinian YouTuber Gaspi) and Lucas Brito Chaves, as well as pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac.

Police are investigating the crash to find out what happened, and experts are examining the scene for clues.

After the incident, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) expressed regret over the tragedy. 

As a long-time follower of aviation safety, I was very concerned to hear about the helicopter accident in Rio de Janeiro today, June 14th. I just read that ANAC, the national aviation agency, is already looking into what happened. They’re checking both the helicopters and the pilots involved, and the investigation itself will be handled by CENIPA, the center dedicated to investigating and preventing these kinds of accidents. It’s reassuring to know they’re on top of it.

ANAC extends its condolences to those affected by the accident and reminds everyone using small planes to always check the safety record of both the airline and the plane itself before flying.

Tree was traveling through South America on what he called ‘The World’s First World Tour’ when he flew with Vignale, Prim, Chaves, and Souza. Meanwhile, Marsillac piloted the other helicopter by himself.

Tree had recently played a concert in São Paulo on June 6th and was set to continue his tour in Lisbon, Portugal on July 13th.

He initially self-released an album in 2013, but gained wider recognition with his first official studio album, Ugly Is Beautiful, released in 2020. This album later achieved gold status in the US.

Oh my gosh, and don’t even get me STARTED on Mick Tree’s style! It was just… him. But honestly, the coolest thing is what the lead singer of “Miss You” said – it wasn’t until he really started experimenting, pushing boundaries, and being totally unpredictable that his music really exploded. That’s when everyone noticed! He took risks and it paid off big time.

He explained to Billboard in 2023 that he’d spent most of his life creating music without anyone paying attention. He was surprised when something else finally gained traction, realizing, ‘Wow, this is actually working, and it’s more significant than my music ever was.’

I just presented myself in a silly way, and I think that reflected how ridiculous things have become in many areas of life. But I also believe that experimenting – trying new things – is how we come up with original ideas and inventions.
