Olivia Munn is in awe of Kate Middleton‘s strength.
Over a year after publicly sharing her breast cancer diagnosis, the former Newsroom actress praised the Princess of Wales for openly discussing her own battle with cancer.
Olivia shared with TopMob News that hearing Princess Kate Middleton discuss the challenges of life after cancer treatment was incredibly meaningful. She explained that those experiencing post-treatment recovery often find this phase surprisingly tough and draining.
The 45-year-old, who shares three-year-old Malcolm and 13-month-old Méi with her husband, John Mulaney, 43, explained that dealing with cancer is a continuing process, not a quick fix.
Before starting treatment, I understood I had a series of things to do – five surgeries, some tests, and medication. But then, just when I thought I was finished, they told me I’d need to continue certain things for the next five years, and then for the rest of my life, including avoiding certain activities.
Olivia was really struggling, and it meant a lot that Kate – who has kept her cancer diagnosis private – was able to explain just how emotionally challenging it is to go through something like this. Kate’s ability to express those feelings actually helped Olivia process her own.
The comedian shared that Princess Kate put into words something they’d been experiencing internally. They’d recognized a challenging period in their own life, but Kate’s description of distinct phases – an initial journey followed by a particularly difficult stage – resonated deeply and provided welcome clarity.
Olivia has been focusing on slowing down and prioritizing her well-being while dealing with health challenges. She’s discovered that taking walks helps her relax and de-stress, even with a packed schedule.
Olivia, who married John in July 2024, recently realized how important it is to simply take time for herself. ‘It’s only in the last couple of years that I’ve started taking walks just to relax and breathe,’ she said. ‘I never did that in my teens, twenties, or thirties.’

Honestly, after everything that’s happened recently, I’ve learned to truly value taking things slow and finding peace in everyday moments. I’m trying really hard to be kinder to myself, too. Now, I celebrate even the smallest accomplishments – getting a little something done feels like a real win. But just as importantly, I don’t beat myself up if I don’t get everything done. That feels like a win, too – just being okay with where I’m at at the end of the day.
Partnering with Athleta for their holiday ‘Celebrate the Wins’ campaign felt like a natural fit. I often grab my Clouds jacket when I need a little break and head out for a walk with baby Méi.
We’re currently in Chicago, so I’m going to put the baby in her carrier. I’ll put on my coat and zip her inside, then we’ll take a short walk. We can enjoy the crisp air and look at the Halloween decorations, and I can just have some quiet time to myself while we’re out.
