As Windows Central approaches its 20th anniversary in 2027, we’re looking back at the stories that built our community – everything from Microsoft and Xbox to Windows and PCs. These memories show how much we’ve all achieved together.
Features we take for granted today, like slow-motion video, were once incredibly exciting. While early 720p120 footage wasn’t perfect – the 30 FPS output could have been better – it was a welcome step forward for Windows 10 Mobile.

To record in slow motion, switch to video mode and tap the turtle icon. Start recording by tapping the video icon or camera button. That’s all there is to it! Slow-motion videos are captured at 720p resolution (1280 x 720) and 120 frames per second, making playback four times slower than normal.
You can also edit slow-motion videos directly on the camera. While previewing, select the Edit slow motion option to trim the clip and adjust the speed of different sections. However, we noticed that the quality of the edited videos is lower than the original, unedited footage.

We also found that while the videos are recorded at 120 frames per second, they appear as 30 fps when you bring them onto your computer. This is helpful for most people, as it automatically slows down the footage and makes it easy to share. However, professional video editors might prefer the original 120 fps files, which offer more flexibility during the editing process.

We’re generally pleased with the new feature. It would be great to have slow motion in 1080p resolution instead of 720p, but our current phones likely can’t handle that. We expect to see 1080p slow motion in the next Lumia models, like the 950 and 950 XL.
If you have a Lumia 1520, 930, or Icon, have you experimented with the slow-motion video feature? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
