In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Miller shared his insights on the debate, noting:
American Eagle demonstrated a commendable approach this time around. Previously, the brand might have humbly apologized and hastily moved on from such an incident. However, they chose to remain firm with their campaign and it paid off, as it was bold without crossing into offensive territory. This strategy was particularly advantageous for Sweeney because while people were discussing her, she didn’t have to engage in the conversation herself.
The campaign showcasing the unique “Sydney Jean” and limited edition jacket used a creative word game, but it faced swift backlash, with some individuals even claiming American Eagle was mirroring propaganda similar to that of the Nazis.
In response, the brand unveiled another advertisement from the series starring a model of a different ethnicity, an action seemingly designed to shift and broaden the discussion.

Regarding the entire situation, the main actress of “Anyone But You” has remained quiet, refraining from making any direct comments even when her family made brief statements (her brother making a joke about the controversy in public). A PR specialist suggests this reserved approach might have been her wisest move.
If her political stance aligns with her truth and she wishes to make it public, that’s commendable; however, she shouldn’t feel pressured to reveal it simply because her party affiliation has been uncovered. She can gracefully decline by stating, “I prefer not to discuss my political views, as they are personal matters. I’m here solely to talk about my film.” Adopting this approach doesn’t mean she loses anything; instead, it ensures a safer path for her.
Despite the buzz generated by the debated denim ad campaign, Sweeney hasn’t been confined to that topic alone this summer. Photos obtained by Page Six reveal her jet skiing in Idaho with a mysterious man during a short vacation, which has sparked conjecture about her romantic life after her engagement. The images show Sweeney beaming alongside her enigmatic companion, yet neither she nor her representatives have commented on the outing. Much like her approach to the American Eagle controversy, there’s been no public response. However, the timing of this event has only served to intensify an already news-worthy summer for the actress.
Sydney Sweeney appears to be undeterred by controversy as she continues to showcase her enterprising side. Recently, there was a stir when she began selling soap made from her bathwater.
