The Batman series has become a major franchise, spawning numerous TV shows and movies based on the DC comic. Each production creates its own unique sets, props, and costumes, which fans often treasure. Over time, many of these famous items from Batman films and shows have been sold at auction for substantial amounts of money.
A rare piece of Batman memorabilia recently sold for an incredibly high price at auction – a price that will likely never be surpassed.
Adam West’s Batmobile Is The Most Expensive Batman Memorabilia Ever Sold (Still)

The Batmobile from the 1966 Batman TV show, featuring Adam West, remains the most expensive Batman item ever sold at auction – a record it’s held for over thirteen years. It was sold for $4.62 million at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, on January 19, 2013, and that price still stands as the highest ever paid for a piece of Batman memorabilia.
The iconic Batmobile from the 1966 Batman television series was created by George Barris. He started with a 1955 Lincoln Futura and added all the famous Batman features, including rocket boosters, fins, and even gadgets that seemed futuristic for cars at the time, like the Bat-Phone and radar. Barris was present at the 2013 auction when the Batmobile was sold to its new owner.
It’s easy to understand why the Batmobile from the 1966 Batman series has been so highly valued for years. While Tim Burton’s 1989 Batmobile was also iconic, it was based on a more modern car that was significantly altered for the film. The ’66 Batmobile, however, was built on a classic car that’s becoming increasingly rare and hard to find. The Adam West Batmobile is uniquely memorable and over-the-top, becoming a beloved part of childhood for people across at least five generations. This makes owning one of the few remaining working models incredibly valuable to collectors.
