One of Netflix’s Worst Original Movies Is About To Stop Streaming

Netflix started as a simple DVD rental service in the 1990s, but it has grown into a worldwide streaming leader that has completely transformed how we enjoy entertainment. They’ve become known for creating their own shows and movies, and have even won awards for films like All Quiet on the Western Front and The Irishman. However, when a Netflix original movie disappears from the platform, it likely won’t be a major loss for most viewers.

You only have a few days left to watch The Open House on Netflix. This 2018 horror film, starring Dylan Minnette from Scream, will be removed on January 19th. The movie tells the story of a teenager and his mother who move to a remote mountain house to sell it after a family tragedy. While hosting open houses, they’re haunted by a frightening intruder. Although it didn’t receive great reviews, it’s written and directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote.

Is The Open House as Bad as They Say?

It’s hard to defend The Open House. Unfortunately, it’s not a very good movie. With a dismal 7% rating from critics and an 8% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it ranks among the lowest-rated original films Netflix has ever produced, and is mostly known for being one of the streaming service’s biggest failures.

Despite aiming for a creepy, suspenseful horror experience with a haunted house and home invasion theme, the movie The Open House simply wasn’t scary or engaging. Beyond lacking thrills, it suffered from uninteresting characters, a slow pace, a confusing plot, and a disappointing ending. Ultimately, it’s a cheap, uninspired, and frustratingly forgettable horror film.

Critics overwhelmingly disliked The Open House. Matt Donato of Dread Central gave it the lowest possible rating, calling it a frustrating failure filled with tired horror tropes. Andrew Wyatt from The Lens described the film as unbearable and pointless, while Chris Osterndorf of The Daily Dot admitted they struggled to stay awake, even during the film’s climax.

Where to Stream The Open House After It Leaves Netflix?

If you’re a fan of The Open House, or just want to see for yourself if it’s as bad as people say, watch it soon! It’s leaving Netflix on January 19th and won’t be available anywhere else. As a Netflix original, it’s unlikely to reappear on the platform in the future.
