The *One Piece* anime had an unscheduled two-week break after episode 1145, which featured Dorry and Brogy helping Luffy battle the Five Elders. Despite the villains being incredibly strong, Luffy is managing to hold his own with the support of his friends. As the Egghead Incident Arc nears its conclusion, a highly skilled animator, Akihiro Ota, is returning to the series after a year away. Ota is well-known to *One Piece* fans for his work on four *One Piece* movies, including the popular films *Gold* and *Stampede*. He took a three-year break after *Stampede* but recently returned as a key animator and assistant director for the TV anime.
Animator Ota has made a significant impact on the *One Piece* anime, notably contributing to seven standout episodes. He’s particularly celebrated for his work on episodes 1072 (featuring Gear 5), 1100 (Luffy vs. Lucci), and 1112 (Shanks vs. Eustass Kidd). Having last been credited in July 2024 with episode 1112, fans are excited about his return, announced via the official *One Piece* social media channels. The announcement included a preview of his key animation from the popular episode 1072, and confirmed his participation in episode 1146.
What to Expect From One Piece Episode 1146?

The latest preview shows intense fighting on the island as the Five Elders focus their attack on Luffy. These powerful leaders normally stay hidden in their fortress at Mariejois and rarely intervene directly. However, with the situation on Egghead escalating beyond the Marines’ control and even Saint Jaygarcia Saturn’s ability to handle it, the remaining Elders teleported to the island. While Luffy battles the Elders, Zoro is locked in a difficult fight with Lucci, and Sanji is desperately trying to rescue Vegapunk, though the scientist’s situation looks grim.
Vegapunk is severely wounded, and if they don’t survive, the World Government will achieve at least part of what they want. Meanwhile, the Straw Hat crew is still trying to escape the island and make their way to Elbaf. Dorry and Brogy, along with their crew, are searching for Luffy – believing him to be Nika – hoping to bring him back to their home.
Things are really building up in the Egghead Arc – we’re getting to the climax, but honestly, it’s going to be a few more months before it wraps up! The best part? At NYCC this month, the *One Piece* team gave us a sneak peek at what’s coming next: the Elbaf Arc! I’m so excited – we got to see everyone’s new looks for that arc. It’s not starting until next year, though, and they haven’t announced a release date just yet, so we’ll have to be patient!
