Given the success of shows like *Goosebumps* and *Fear Street*, it’s no surprise that more of R.L. Stine’s popular horror stories are being made into movies and TV shows. Good news for fans looking for a spooky season treat: a new adaptation of one of Stine’s scariest stories just came out! It premiered on Friday as an exclusive on the Tubi streaming service, so it’s available to watch for free.
Tubi released a new teen horror movie, *R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead*, on Friday. It’s based on one of his *Haunting Hour* stories. Similar to other adaptations of Stine’s work, *Pumpkinhead* – which is different from the 1988 film with the same title – features a group of young characters and is suitable for viewers of many ages.
R.L. Stine’s *Pumpkinhead* follows Sam, a young man adjusting to life in a new town. When his brother goes missing, Sam must fight against a frightening curse connected to the harvest season.
Okay, so this new movie has a really interesting cast – Adeline Lo, Kevin McNulty, Bob Frazer, Matty Finochio, and Seth Isaac Johnson are all in it. But what *really* caught my eye is that it’s written and directed by Jem Garrard. I loved her work on Tubi’s *Slay* earlier this year, and she’s also directed episodes of shows I enjoy like *Charmed*, *Virgin River*, and *Wynonna Earp*. A big team helped produce it too, including Jem herself, along with James Mattagne, Joan Waricha, Harvey Kahn, Yvonne Bernard, Dan Bernard, Allen Lewis, and Rama Diallo.
With Halloween approaching, the movie *Pumpkinhead* is a great option for younger horror fans looking for a spooky experience. What makes it stand out is that it’s currently available to watch for free, giving it an advantage over other Halloween movies.
