One of Stephen King’s Most Devastating Movies Is on Free Streaming (And the Ending Will Destroy You)

As a huge movie fan, I’ve always said an ending can truly make or break a film, and this one, currently available to stream for free, has a twist that really solidified its place as one of the most powerfully disturbing Stephen King adaptations ever. King’s stories aren’t exactly known for being light and fluffy – he loves to delve into really dark territory – but this 2007 film, a fantastic reunion between King and director Frank Darabont, is something else. It’s got a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and honestly, the ending is absolutely gut-wrenching. It’s one of those endings that stays with you long after the credits roll.

Now streaming on Tubi, The Mist is a terrifying adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novella. The film takes place in Bridgton, Maine, and follows a family caught in a strange, deadly mist that descends upon the town. Trapped inside a grocery store with other survivors, the Draytons watch as fear and suspicion quickly turn the situation chaotic.

The Mist Is One of the Darkest Stephen King Adaptations

The real horror doesn’t come from the creatures in the mist, but from how the movie shows what happens to people when they’re pushed to their breaking point. It’s a chilling look at how quickly fear and suspicion can cause people to turn on each other, and how easily society’s rules can fall apart.

The movie maintains a bleak mood throughout, culminating in a deeply affecting and memorable finale that will stay with you long after it ends. Tubi has expanded its already strong collection of horror films with several new additions in November, including The Mist. Horror fans can now stream movies like Black Christmas, the original Child’s Play from 1988, House of Wax (2005), Terrifier 3, and Thirteen Ghosts all for free. In addition to The Mist, Tubi also added adaptations of three other Stephen King stories this month: the 1978 and 2013 versions of Carrie, and Misery.
