A highly-rated game from the 2010s is now available for free to PC gamers with an Amazon Prime subscription. Prime Gaming is offering the game through codes distributed on GOG. However, this offer won’t last forever – you need to claim it by July 1st. The good news is, once you redeem the code, the game is yours to keep permanently. You’ll need an active Prime subscription to get the game, but not to keep playing it.
Amazon Prime members who also have a GOG account can get the strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown for free until July 1st. This game is a remake of the 1994 classic UFO: Enemy Unknown and is highly regarded as one of the best strategy games ever made. It received a score of 91 on Metacritic, won PC Game of the Year at The Game Awards, and earned multiple nominations and awards at the D.I.C.E. Awards. While a sequel, XCOM 2, was released in 2016, many still consider Enemy Unknown to be the best game in the series and it continues to be enjoyable even after 14 years.
A Lot of Content for free
If you decide to try this classic strategy game for free, be prepared to spend a good amount of time with it. Completing the main game will take around 30 hours, and fully finishing everything will likely take closer to 70 hours. Plus, XCOM: Enemy Unknown is very replayable, so you could easily spend even more time enjoying it.
Currently, there are no plans for an XCOM 3, and there aren’t even any rumors suggesting one is being developed. This means XCOM: Enemy Unknown will likely remain the most complete and defining game in the series for the foreseeable future.
Amazon Prime subscribers can currently get the “Complete Pack,” which includes the highly-rated expansion, XCOM: Enemy Within, and all other downloadable content released for the game.
