Recent years have seen fantastic TV adaptations of popular books and stories. Shows like The Last of Us, Reacher, Cross, Fallout, and The Lincoln Lawyer have all been successful, and now a highly-regarded science fiction and fantasy book series is getting its own TV show. If the adaptation is well-executed, it has the potential to run for seven seasons or more.
According to Variety, a live-action TV series based on Dungeon Crawler Carl is officially happening and will stream on Peacock. Chris Yost is writing the series, and he’ll also executive produce it alongside Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins, and the creator of the original series, Matt Dinniman. Rachel Hargreaves-Heald will oversee production for Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door production company.
The Dungeon Crawler Carl TV Series Has The Potential For At Least 7 Seasons

Dungeon Crawler Carl first appeared in September 2020 and quickly became popular with readers thanks to its blend of science fiction, fantasy, comedy, and exciting action. The story centers on Carl, a former Coast Guard member, and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, who find themselves stuck in a dungeon as part of a reality show broadcast across the galaxy. The series now includes seven books, providing plenty of source material for a potential television adaptation.
Planning to adapt one book per season gives you a solid seven seasons to start with. Luckily, the series has ongoing new releases – the upcoming book, A Parade of Horribles, will be the eighth! If the author continues to publish, there’s potential for many more seasons, but it all depends on making the first season a success.
Peacock scored a big win with this series, which is part of a rapidly growing franchise. At Toy Fair, Playmates Toys showcased a new line of toys, and Renegade Game Studios is developing Dungeon Crawler Carl games. With such a skilled creative team, if the show resonates with audiences, it has the potential to become a huge, multi-platform franchise. Here’s the official description of Dungeon Crawler Carl.
After an alien invasion decimates humanity, the remaining survivors are forced to compete in a brutal, televised game show for their lives. It gets even worse for Coast Guard veteran Carl, who’s paired with Princess Donut, his ex-girlfriend’s pampered and arrogant show cat. Together, they must battle monsters, aliens, a rogue A.I., and other desperate people—all for the amusement of an intergalactic audience. Surviving isn’t guaranteed, but the show must go on.
We don’t yet know when the live-action Dungeon Crawler Carl’s series will be released, but we’ll share updates as soon as we have them.
