A highly acclaimed PS1 game, frequently ranked among the greatest of all time, is being re-released next week on PS4 and PS5. It will be available to buy on the PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will get it for free.
Though originally released in arcades in 1997, *Tekken 3* first came to home consoles on the PlayStation 1 in 1998. It remained a PlayStation exclusive and is widely considered one of the best games ever made for the console, boasting a Metacritic score of 96. As the third installment in the acclaimed *Tekken* series, *Tekken 3* is a standout title in the fighting game genre.
Not a Remaster, Not a Remake, But Improved
On October 21st, Tekken 3 will become available on the PlayStation Store and through PlayStation Plus, but it’s not a remake. It’s the classic game originally released for the PlayStation 1, with a few improvements. These include better graphics thanks to up-rendering, a quick save feature, and options to customize the video. Otherwise, it’s the same Tekken 3 fans remember.
If you have a PS Plus Premium membership, this game will be included as part of October’s offerings. Otherwise, it will cost $9.99 to purchase. While most PS Plus Premium games are available to all members, some are occasionally exclusive to the Premium tier, and it often seems to be chosen at random.
The 5th Best-Selling PS1 game
The original *Tekken 3* was a massive hit on the PlayStation, earning high praise and becoming one of the console’s best-selling games. With a Metacritic score of 96, it’s considered a standout title from that gaming generation. Players will be enjoying the PlayStation version, which includes a special beat ’em up mode that wasn’t in the original arcade game.
There’s no news yet about *Tekken 9*, which isn’t unexpected since *Tekken 8* just came out last year. Fans are still hoping for *Tekken x Street Fighter*, but that possibility seems less likely with each passing day.
We’d love to hear your thoughts! Please leave a comment below, or join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum. Are you planning to play this classic PlayStation game when it’s available on the PlayStation Store next week?
