A popular choice for the best Resident Evil game, along with two other titles in the series, has just received a significant update. While fans debate which Resident Evil game is truly the best – with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 consistently topping the list – Resident Evil 4 generally receives higher critical scores. However, many players who first experienced the series on PlayStation 1 have a strong preference for Resident Evil 2. If you’re one of those fans, this new update should be exciting for you.
Capcom recently added a new feature to three Resident Evil games – Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 7, and Resident Evil Village. However, this feature is only available on Xbox and Windows PC thanks to Xbox Play Anywhere. Xbox Play Anywhere is a Microsoft program that allows you to purchase a game once and play it on both Xbox consoles and Windows 10/11 PCs, with your saved progress syncing across all devices.
Three Resident Evil Games
Okay, so for anyone who hasn’t played them, let me break these games down. First up is Resident Evil 2 Remake. It’s a total overhaul of the original Resident Evil 2 from ’98, and kicked off the recent wave of Resident Evil remakes. It was a huge hit, scoring a 91 on Metacritic! Then there’s Resident Evil 7. This one came out in 2017 and was a big shift – they changed it from the usual third-person view to first-person, which was awesome. It even got VR support! It pulled in an 86 on Metacritic when it launched. Finally, Resident Evil Village (sometimes called Resident Evil 8) came out in 2021 as a direct sequel to Resident Evil 7. It got an 83 on Metacritic, and it’s a really solid follow-up.
It’s a mystery why this feature was suddenly added to these three games. It’s also odd that these particular games were chosen, as other Resident Evil titles don’t have it. Surprisingly, even Resident Evil 4 Remake, the newest and most popular modern installment, doesn’t support it. And currently, there’s no indication that the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem will include it when it’s released.
