One of the Best Strategy Games of the Decade Is Finally Coming to Nintendo Switch

A highly-rated and beloved strategy game is heading to the Nintendo Switch. The Switch already has a strong selection of strategy titles, including popular franchises like Fire Emblem and Mario + Rabbids, as well as games like Civilization VI and XCOM 2. But for strategy fans, there’s good news: another major game is now confirmed to be coming to the platform.

This week, 11 Bit Studios announced that Frostpunk is finally coming to Nintendo Switch. Originally released in 2018, Frostpunk quickly became a beloved strategy game and spawned a whole franchise. With a sequel, Frostpunk 2, launching in 2024, and a reimagining of the original game, Frostpunk 1886, planned for next year, the series is thriving. Now, 11 Bit Studios is bringing the original Frostpunk to Nintendo platforms for the first time.

When Will This Game Release on Nintendo Switch?

It’s great news that Frostpunk is coming to Nintendo Switch, but details about the release are still scarce. 11 Bit Studios hasn’t revealed what the Switch version will include or when it will launch. They did offer a quick look at the game running on the Switch, but an actual release date remains unknown.

If the Switch version of Frostpunk does well, it’s likely 11 Bit Studios will consider releasing more games on Nintendo consoles in the future. Frostpunk 2 would be a great fit for the Switch 2, and Frostpunk 1886 could also come to Nintendo’s system when it’s released next year. While 11 Bit Studios hasn’t confirmed any plans for these releases, a successful Switch port of the original game would make it hard to ignore Nintendo platforms going forward.
