It’s a fantastic time to be a horror movie fan! The genre has been doing incredibly well lately, with successful films like *Hereditary*, *A Quiet Place*, and Ryan Coogler’s *Sinners*. As Halloween approaches, it’s the perfect moment to catch up on these recent hits, and now you can stream one of the best horror movies of the last ten years.
With excitement building around director Zach Cregger’s new film, Weapons, horror fans can now stream his breakout movie, Barbarian, on Hulu. Barbarian, which earned critical acclaim (92% on Rotten Tomatoes) and made ten times its production cost back, began streaming on October 1st. Considered both one of the most surprising and best horror films in recent years, it’s a dark and twisted story about a rental home with a terrifying secret. The film is unsettling, suspenseful, and even has moments of dark humor, making it a great choice for watching during the Halloween season.
Why You Should Watch Barbarian
As a horror fan, I have to say *Barbarian* really stood out – it’s one of the most genuinely original horror films I’ve seen in ages. The way the movie is structured, almost like separate but connected stories, is brilliant. It feels like two different horror movies cleverly woven together, with a backstory gradually revealed. What I loved most was how it constantly surprised me. You think you know where it’s going – like when the woman arrives at her Airbnb and it’s already occupied – but then it throws you for a loop. The shifting perspectives keep you completely off balance, destroying any sense of safety or predictability. It’s a real rollercoaster ride!
Even just the performance of Matthew Patrick Davis as “The Mother” makes *Barbarian* worth watching. He brilliantly plays a frightening creature who turns out to be a victim of horrific abuse, making the film a powerful exploration of trauma and misogyny. The rest of the cast – including horror stars Bill Skarsgård, Justin Long, and Georgina Campbell – also deliver strong performances, effectively building the film’s sense of terror.
Other Horror Movies Now on Hulu
If you’re a horror fan looking for something scary to watch this season, Hulu is a great place to start. They’ve added a lot of horror movies and shows recently, including titles like *Barbarian*, along with popular franchises like *Saw* and *Scream*. You’ll also find movies like *Halloween* (2018), *Nightmare Alley*, *Sinister*, *The Last Witch Hunter*, and *The Sixth Sense* available to stream.
October brings several new horror releases! Here’s what’s coming up: *The Cabin in the Woods* will be available on Hulu starting October 16th, and *40 Acres* arrives the following day. *The Hand That Rocks the Cradle* (2025) is scheduled for October 22nd, and *The Exorcism* will be released on October 28th.
