One of the Most Inventive Creator-Owned Comics Announces Its Return

A beloved independent comic book series, renowned for being creator-owned, is set to return to comic book shops this autumn. Navigating the competitive landscape of comics can be challenging, but a captivating plot and well-known creators with a devoted fanbase tend to boost sales. In the realm of independent comics, Image Comics often houses the most successful titles. Many creators establish their reputation at the major publishers (Marvel, DC) before utilizing their following to produce stories they hold the rights to at Image Comics. Notable among these is Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans, who are returning with their RPG-inspired comic in a powerful comeback.

Comic book publisher Image Comics has revealed that the popular and critically acclaimed series “Die,” written by Kieron Gillen and illustrated by Stephanie Hans, is making a comeback. The next chapter in this story will start with “Die: Loaded” in November, where the characters from the original series find themselves back on Earth after extraordinary events, attempting to adjust to everyday life once more.

Die Has Been Called a “Goth Jumanji”

In the ’90s, six teenagers vanished while immersed in a fantasy role-playing game. Only five came back. Almost three decades later, these scarred individuals are compelled to return, as they find out that the game isn’t done with them just yet. Die, first introduced in 2019, is often referred to as a “darker version of Jumanji” and has ignited a trend of storytelling inspired by role-playing games.

A simultaneous release event is being organized for the quickstart guide of “The Die RPG,” coinciding with the launch of “Die: Loaded.” This will give fans an opportunity to explore the Origin Award-winning “Die RPG” in a self-contained and affordable format. To play, simply gather some dice, assemble your friends, and let your enthusiasm for the game take over!

In essence, we crafted “Die” as a platform to explore the realms of fantasy and reality. As long as we have tales to spin, “Die: Loaded” is just one of many stories we’re eager to share with you – to amuse, move, and even shock you. Moreover, it’s crucial for “Die” that we provide a space for others to share their narratives. That’s why we developed the role-playing game, and with this Quickstart, we aim to invite even more individuals to join us in our storytelling adventure.

Hans commented: “Returning as an artist to enlarge a world where so much affection was invested, feels exceptionally special. This ongoing piece of art gives me the opportunity to collaborate with Kieron in its development.

Approximately a year following the traumatic in-game events depicted in issue #20 of “Die,” the players regroup in “Die: Loaded.” They believe they’ve left the game behind, but it seems the game has other plans. Brace yourselves for another round – who will meet their demise this time?

Die: Loaded #1 goes on sale Wednesday, November 12th.
