Following the conclusion of the Kuma flashback, the Egghead Arc in “One Piece” is gaining momentum with a swift start featuring the Buster Call and the appearance of the Blackbeard Pirates on Egghead. Although the most recent episode served as another recap, the previous few episodes have disclosed some intriguing facts that merit further exploration. The most compelling among these is undoubtedly the hint about Blackbeard’s ancestry and even more shockingly, the unveiling of his ultimate aim, which has left fans utterly astonished.
In the 1141st episode of “One Piece,” Van Augur hints cryptically that Blackbeard aims for nothing less than the world itself, leaving fans bewildered. Neither Van Augur nor Catarine Devon provide additional insight into this disclosure, but it’s apparent that Blackbeard aspires to much more than merely claiming the title of Pirate King. Despite this, he remains on Luffy’s list of potential claimants for the title. In fact, this revelation of Blackbeard’s ultimate objective could make him Luffy’s most formidable adversary in the future. The disclosure also underscores a significant similarity between Blackbeard and Roger and Rocks while offering new context to minor details about Blackbeard and his crew.
One Piece Reveals Blackbeard’s Goal is the World
Since their encounter at Mock Town, Blackbeard has been portrayed as the opposite of Luffy in the world of “One Piece.” As the storyline progresses, both characters have ascended through the ranks remarkably close to each other. Consequently, Blackbeard is often viewed as a possible final adversary for Luffy and his most formidable rival in the quest for the One Piece. However, the Egghead Arc has unveiled that Blackbeard’s aspirations extend beyond just becoming the Pirate King; they are, in fact, more grandiose in nature.
Initially, Blackbeard’s ambition mirrors Rocks’ famous aspiration to rule the world. It’s plausible that Blackbeard carries on the spirit of Rocks D. Xebec, given their close connection, as recent chapters in the Elbaf Arc have shown. This suggests a potential intense rivalry between Luffy and Blackbeard, reminiscent of the legendary one between Roger and Rocks, who both represent distinct characters. Additionally, these similarities with Rocks also explain why Blackbeard named his ship the Saber of Xebec and why he desires to establish Fullalead as a sovereign nation under his leadership, a territory once ruled by the Rocks Pirates and formerly part of Ochoku’s crew.
Despite having a different aim than Luffy’s, it places Blackbeard in direct conflict with him. Luffy’s genuine dream is to be the freest person on the seas by claiming the title of Pirate King. If Blackbeard were to achieve his goal, which involves becoming the ruler of the world similar to Imu, he would essentially take away Luffy’s freedom even if Luffy becomes the Pirate King. Consequently, Blackbeard remains Luffy’s biggest hindrance in “One Piece”.
One Piece can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
