The One Piece manga is still unfolding the story in the Elbaph arc, adding more depth to its world. The latest chapter focuses on developing another member of the Straw Hat crew, surprisingly not Usopp. Many fans thought Usopp would be central to this arc, considering his long-held admiration for giants and his desire to visit Elbaph. Given his ambition to become a courageous warrior, and Elbaph being the land of the brave, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for him to grow. However, the current storyline doesn’t seem to be setting up any significant advancements or improvements for Usopp’s character.
Although Usopp recently opposed Imu, it felt more like a typical moment for his character and didn’t significantly develop him. That scene actually highlighted a mysterious connection between Brook and Gunko instead. Meanwhile, Franky got a substantial power boost thanks to Vegapunk Lilith, putting him in a strong position. Once again, another Straw Hat crew member unexpectedly gained new abilities, while Usopp remains on the sidelines.
One Piece Gives the Straw Hats’ Doctor a Significant Upgrade

Chapter 1178 of One Piece, titled “Waking From a Nightmare,” continues the intense action in the Elbaph arc as the Straw Hats and the giants work to restore order. A major focus is on reversing the demonic transformations caused by Imu’s Domi Reverse, with Zoro, Dorry, Brogy, and other giants leading the effort. Just as they’re about to succeed, Chopper unexpectedly joins the fight and proves to be a game-changer, as he can instantly undo the transformations with a single attack, significantly boosting his abilities.
I’ve noticed something really interesting about Chopper. Unlike others who have to completely destroy demon forms to revert someone back to normal, he can do it with just one hit. That puts him in a unique position during big battles, and I think it could be incredibly important in the upcoming war. This new ability really boosts his usefulness in two ways: he’s still a fantastic doctor, but now he’s also a powerful fighter on the front lines. We haven’t gotten an explanation for why he can do this yet, but there’s one theory that might explain it.
Luffy’s ability to potentially reverse transformations with a single blow might be linked to his Devil Fruit power, the Human-Human Fruit. The fact that Imu can’t control him this way hints at this possibility, though other explanations could emerge. Whatever the reason, this development is a huge boost for Chopper, positioning him for a key role in the final battles of One Piece. Meanwhile, fans are still hoping to see Usopp receive a similar upgrade.
