Netflix’s SUPER adaptation of One Piece has returned for a second season.
Eiichiro Oda created One Piece, which first appeared in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997 and has since become a hugely popular anime around the world, achieving numerous records. The series follows Monkey D. Luffy’s journey to become the Pirate King, searching for the legendary treasure left behind by Gol D. Roger. Along the way, Luffy assembles a unique crew – including Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji – to help him find the One Piece and brave the dangerous Grand Line.
Many doubted Netflix could successfully adapt the popular anime One Piece, but the show continues to exceed expectations. The second season recently launched and has earned a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Created by Steven Maeda and Matt Owens, the adaptation has wowed viewers who were cautiously optimistic about its potential.

Merlyn De Souza from ScreenRant praised Netflix’s One Piece as a remarkably successful live-action adaptation, a view widely echoed by others. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes are now saying that the show’s second season has established One Piece as one of Netflix’s very best original series and a standout example of how to adapt shonen manga and anime into live action.
As a critic, I have to admit, the original One Piece animated series is a phenomenon. We’re talking a thousand episodes, and Netflix says viewers logged over 1.7 billion hours with it – incredible! Nobody expected it to become this popular, but it really did become one of the biggest anime series globally. Now, Netflix’s live-action adaptation has hit the ground running, becoming a number one show in 46 countries right out of the gate. It’s a huge success!
As a huge One Piece fan, I was completely thrown by something in season 2 – the early introduction of Bartolomeo! It’s a really interesting move, and it makes me wonder if Netflix is thinking about changing things up from the original story. In the manga and anime, we don’t meet Bartolomeo for quite a while, so seeing him so early on definitely feels like a signal they might be reshaping the timeline.
As a huge fan of One Piece, I’m thrilled to hear that Netflix has officially started production on season 3! The original cast – Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji – are all back together, and they’re filming on location in Cape Town, South Africa. But that’s not all – they’ve also added two exciting new faces to the crew: Xolo Maridueña, who you might recognize from Cobra Kai, will be playing Portgas D. Ace, and Tony Award winner Cole Escola is joining as Bon Clay. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together!
You can now watch season 2 of One Piece on Netflix. Season 3 is still in production, but is currently anticipated to arrive in late 2027.
