One Piece’s Live-Action Zoro is in Love With The Anime’s Card Game (And It’s Almost Unbelievable)

Fans can look forward to the return of the live-action Straw Hat Pirates on Netflix next year, on March 10th. The second season of One Piece will present each crew member with new obstacles, and the actors—including Inaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Taz Skyler, and Jacob Romero Gibson—are fully committed to their roles. However, Mackenyu, who plays Roronoa Zoro, might have an edge thanks to his passion for the One Piece Card Game.

The One Piece Card Game launched in 2022, bringing the characters from the popular series to life as collectible cards for competitive play. Mackenyu, who plays Zoro in the live-action adaptation, has become a big fan and a skilled player. Jacob Romero Gibson, who plays Usopp, previously mentioned that Mackenyu often played the game with Eiichiro Oda’s assistants. Recently, at a One Piece Card Game event, Mackenyu impressively ranked eighth out of 366 players, proving his dedication to the franchise. He shared the exciting news with his fans on social media.

Okay, so I’ve been tracking the Hatchi CS tournament! Here’s how things shook out. In the preliminaries, we had Black Im going first, and Green Bonney going second. Red/Blue Ace went first, Red/Black Sabo went second, Green Mihawk went first, and Yellow Luffy also went first. Black Im went first again, followed by Green Mihawk going second. Then we had Red/Blue Ace going first, Blue/Purple Sanji second, and Blue/Yellow Hancock going first. Ultimately, it came down to the Top 8 out of 366 players – a really impressive run for everyone involved!

What Will Zoro Do In Season 2?

The second season of the live-action One Piece series won’t immediately jump into the Alabasta Arc, but it will explore a significant portion of the Grand Line. Netflix plans to release live-action versions of well-known locations from the original manga and anime – including Whiskey Peak, Reverse Mountain, Drum Island, Loguetown, and Little Garden – in March of next year. Because the show closely follows the original story, fans already have a strong sense of what’s in store for Roronoa Zoro and the rest of the Straw Hat crew.

The second live-action season will feature Zoro battling opponents like Wapol, Buggy, Mr. 3, and surprisingly, even Monkey D. Luffy. After his defeat by Mihawk in season one, Zoro will be determined to prove himself in the new episodes. Fans can look forward to seeing more of Mackenyu as Zoro, as a third season is already being made and will cover the entire Alabasta Arc.

Zoro has been a consistent and important member of Monkey D. Luffy’s crew throughout the run of the popular manga and anime series, One Piece. The anime is making a significant change in 2026, moving from weekly to every-other-week episodes. As the Straw Hat crew gets ready to journey to the land of giants, Elbaph, fans can expect the wait between episodes to be worthwhile.
