One Piece’s Most Popular Theory Is Slightly Getting Out of Hand

This year marks the 28th anniversary of the popular manga “One Piece,” and it’s now in the final story arc, approaching its end. The comic series follows the adventures of a young pirate named Monkey D. Luffy, set in a world corrupted by a tyrannical government. Over time, the story has unveiled multiple layers of mysteries, some of which remain unsolved. Even our main character, Luffy, is shrouded in mystery, with his ultimate goal being more than just becoming the Pirate King – something that can only be accomplished by finding the One Piece.

In addition, we have very little information about Monkey D. Dragon, Luffy’s father, who first appeared in the Loguetown Arc. The series has only shown him sparingly, and despite being the leader of the Revolutionary Army, his powers remain a secret. Yet, the most enigmatic figure in his family is his mother, whose name or image has never been depicted in the narrative. Luffy was raised in a humble village within the Goa Kingdom, nestled in the East Blue Sea. Many fans, however, speculate about this new character as a possible contender, although there’s no concrete proof to support their claims.

One Piece Fans Believe the Former Pirate Empress Is Luffy’s Mother

Due to the manga not disclosing Luffy’s mother’s identity, numerous speculations have emerged over the years, including one suggesting Crocodile could be a woman and his mother. This theory has sparked a lot of interest, with Tritoma, a former Pirate Empress, becoming quite popular due to it. Tritoma was initially introduced in SBS Volume 109, marking the start of these rumors. Prior to this, she had been mentioned during the Amazon Lily Arc, as the late Pirate Empress who died from Love Sickness approximately 13 years ago.

In chapter 1156, Tritoma first appeared in a flashback set approximately 40 years ago, during the height of the Kuja Pirates’ fame for their striking looks and formidable strength. Despite the similarities in personality and appearance between her and Luffy, her cheerful demeanor setting her apart from the other Pirate Empresses, fans have only this to go on when suggesting she might be Luffy’s mother. However, this theory remains unproven, as there is no substantial evidence yet to support it. Additionally, Tritoma passed away 13 years ago, which means that by then, Luffy was already six and had never seen her face. While it’s possible that their backstory could be developed further to account for this gap in the timeline, until more compelling evidence emerges, it cannot be definitively stated that Tritoma is Luffy’s mother.

Due to the perils threatening Dragon, Luffy’s father, Monkey D. Garp took on the role of raising young Luffy as he was a Vice Admiral and often had a busy schedule. In his absence, they were looked after by Curly Dadan, a former bandit from the mountains. Despite not growing up with his biological parents, Luffy received plenty of affection from Dadan in her unique manner. As we approach the Final Saga in the One Piece manga, there’s a good chance that we will uncover more about Luffy’s parents and the history linking them together.
