As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve seen some seriously powerful weapons – Mjolnir, the Ten Rings, even the universe-erasing Ultimate Nullifier. But honestly? I think the most dangerous weapon in the whole Marvel Universe is something you probably have sitting in your kitchen right now. I’m talking about the humble frying pan! Seriously, it’s the ultimate close-combat weapon. Remember when Cyclops actually beat Captain America with one? It just proves my point – don’t underestimate the power of a good skillet!
Following the conflict between the Avengers and the X-Men, Cyclops and Captain America were openly hostile towards each other. Captain America wanted to arrest Cyclops for his radical behavior and the death of Professor X, while Cyclops viewed Captain America as a hypocrite for not doing more to help mutants. In A+X #13, both were unexpectedly forced to team up by a Skrull named K’Thron to prevent an invasion of Earth by super-powered mutant Skrulls. K’Thron wasn’t aware of the deep-seated animosity between them at the time.
The Deadliest Weapon in the Known Multiverse

K’Thron unexpectedly grabbed Captain America and Cyclops and brought them onto his ship, freezing them until he could explain things. Interestingly, Cyclops was in the middle of cooking – he had a frying pan and was even wearing an apron that said “meat is murder”! As soon as they were unfrozen, a fight broke out. Captain America immediately went for his shield, while Cyclops tried to hit him with the frying pan. That didn’t work, of course, and the fight continued, but it’s worth imagining that brief, bizarre scene for a moment.

Cyclops has the ability to continuously fire powerful energy blasts from his eyes, and he can’t control it. He could have easily destroyed Captain America simply by taking off his glasses or moving his head, but instead, he chose to attack with a frying pan! It’s surprising that Cyclops, who has incredible range but no super strength, would resort to hitting Cap with cookware when he has such a powerful ranged attack. Honestly, I love seeing this kind of scrappy, unconventional fighting in comics.
It took a rocky beginning, but they ultimately worked together and saved the day! Now, let’s have some fun: if you were going to challenge a superhero, what everyday kitchen item would you choose as your weapon? Share your thoughts and join the discussion in the ComicBook Forum!
