The Capcom Spotlight recently revealed a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, which has quickly become a highlight for many fans. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet, director Satoru Nihei shared on Twitter that the game is now in its final stages of development.
Hey everyone, just wanted to say thanks so much for all the awesome reactions to last week’s Capcom Spotlight! It’s seriously exciting to see so many of you hyped for the release date. We’re all working super hard on the final touches now, and we’ll let you know as soon as we have news to share. Stay tuned!
He then described the Underground Laboratory, hidden beneath Kyoto, where Dokyo – a powerful enemy – was building new Genma (the monsters Musashi battles). He explained that the stage was designed to feel like a classic Japanese haunted house, noting the spooky shadows on the paper screens.
Despite its potentially unsettling atmosphere, Onimusha: Way of the Sword isn’t a scary survival horror game like Resident Evil. Players take on the role of Miyamoto Musashi, a legendary swordsman resurrected with a powerful magical gauntlet. He battles hordes of demonic creatures in Edo-period Kyoto, all while confronting his fierce rival, Sasaki Ganryu, who appears to enjoy the resulting turmoil.
Battles focus on skillful blocking and breaking an enemy’s defenses to defeat them. Like other Onimusha games, Way of the Sword isn’t an open-world adventure; it’s a focused, roughly 20-hour story. The game features a completely new story and characters, though fans of past titles will find some familiar nods and references.
I’m super excited to share that Onimusha: Way of the Sword is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC later this year! I’ll keep you all updated as I learn more, so stay tuned!
