Capcom’s recent showcase highlighted the success of Resident Evil Requiem, announced an earlier release for Pragmata, and confirmed that Onimusha: Way of the Sword is still in development. The showcase included a new trailer for the dark fantasy action game, detailing its story, world, and gameplay.
The game promises to reveal more about the intriguing stories and secrets of Kyoto, hinting that hidden myths will play a key role in the narrative. Unfortunately, there’s still no confirmed release date, or even an estimated timeframe. However, the developers have assured fans it’s still planned for release on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC sometime this year.
The game still looks fantastic, particularly during intense moments like Musashi deflecting attacks from the large Genma. Using the environment to your advantage – for example, knocking an enemy into an obstacle and watching them flail – is really satisfying. Ultimately, the game offers plenty of enjoyable experiences, from challenging boss fights against Ganryu to completing the initial missions.
I’m keeping an eye on Onimusha: Way of the Sword for more news, and you can check out this link to find out why Capcom chose Musashi as the main character. If you were hoping to see characters from older Onimusha games show up, though, it sounds like that’s not happening. They’ve said there will be nods to the past, but no actual returning faces.
