An original member of the Avengers team has spoken about the possibility of appearing in Marvel’s next two big movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars. The first film is scheduled to come out December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
Who is not returning for the next Avengers movies?
While appearing on The Breakfast Club morning show to discuss his recovery from a snowplow accident last year, Jeremy Renner – known for playing Hawkeye – clarified his future with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He confirmed he won’t be returning as Clint Barton/Hawkeye in upcoming Avengers films, explaining that he currently has a lot of other projects keeping him occupied.
During a conversation with Charlamagne tha God, Jeremy Renner jokingly responded to a suggestion that Marvel could easily replace him as Hawkeye with a version from another universe, now that the franchise is exploring the multiverse. Renner laughed and said the studio was welcome to do so if they wished.
Honestly, when I heard that, Renner just seemed totally unbothered. He basically said, ‘Look, if that’s what they want to do, fine. I’ve got my own things going on,’ like it wasn’t even a big deal to him. It came across as pretty dismissive, if you ask me.
The next Avengers movie, currently titled Avengers: Doomsday, will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who also directed Avengers: Endgame. The script is written by Stephen McFeely. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth are returning for this installment, with Downey Jr. playing a new character – Victor von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom. The film boasts a large cast including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Lewis Pullman, Simu Liu, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Danny Ramirez.
The next movie will bring back several familiar faces from the X-Men franchise, including Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Kevin Feige has hinted that more actors will be announced soon, following the popular initial cast reveal. There’s also speculation that characters like Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers, and Spider-Man could make an appearance.
